Best type of rope for large deer extraction

For those that have to pull, or extract, large deer from awkward places - such as marshes, ditches, dykes and across arable land - what type of rope have you found to be the most durable and effective.

I have a number of areas where the extraction of reds - up to 120kg larder weight, but mostly in the 60-100kg range - can prove a problem. The extraction would be assisted by either a vehicle, or winch with doublers .

What formulation gives low stretch and durability as standard?
Are climbing ropes the way to go?
What type of nylon, sheathed, weave should you be looking for?

Thanks in advance.

I just use the draw rope that is used by the service providers in the ducting its pleanty strong enough. I have a snatch block but haven't used it yet.
The problem we have are large lowland reds dropped in the woodland in soft areas were vechile access is just about impossible, with plenty of rope you can thread you way through the trees then use the vechile to pull it say 30 yards then reverse and take another bite and so on.

the minimum diameter rope recommended for capstan winch ( pcw3000) is 10mm and i tried mine with thinner but it is a ball ache .....stick to the 10mm diameter and they say needs to be double braid polyester ...id go with that

dont get climbing rope....we had some and was longest "bungee" going

Try the ends bin at a chandlery most sailing ropes are very low stretch and pick the one that fits the hand best?
Failing that it's whatever my apprentice has brought with him an I give morale support!

Thanks for the replies so far. I have had minimal success with what would be classed as low grade climbing rope. This stuff snaps when put on a good load. The initial problem to over come is a heavy animal that has dug-in. Even doubling -and quadrupling - up has resulted in this type of rope snapping under load when heavy - even pressure - is applied. This is pulling out in 4WL carefully.

lack of trees in these areas also represents a problem, as there is sod all to anchor against.
@sauer, I would go 10mm minimum. And chandlers rope - -cored with a sheath - would be the choice. I was hoping for a brand or supplier, but it's still early days.................

Wot are u long for a massive LNG length of rope or something for over ur shoulder for hand drags?

For hand drags u could use anything u wanted, from ratchet straps, seat belts to normal rope.

For long lengths. U can get arborist bull rope for liwering/rigging trees down low stretch won't be too expensive for 10mm
Or cheaper dynema for fishing boats, yatchts etc synthetic and pretty robust.

Dealing with 100ms of rope can be a real pita avoiding it getting tangled.
So u need to figure out how it going to store and work with it

For extracting bigger animals by myself I use horse lunging rein and a head halter I think is for showing bulls at fairs. Pulls no problems to where the vehicle can get.
