Brand of rifle to look into

To the op or anyone interested. I have this incredibly straight sako .30-06 (finn bear) basically as new condition. Super low shot count, threaded with muzzle protector. Comes with optilocks. Absolute sleeper and a very nice rifle.
Forgot to say, I would sell it! Looking for £600

I have been through a lot of different brands and models. A lot..
And ended up with two new primary hunting rifles, a pair of Stainless Tikka T3 in 223 and 308.
I should have bought these the year they came out....

Tikka T3 is a scaled down Sako TRG Sniper rifle. A sporterized sniper rifle..
Nearly identical action and recoil lug configuration. It has simply shown itself to work.
Quality and stupid simple trigger. Can swap it out with a TRG trigger if you want.
Sako Hammer Forged barrel. Probably last me 10.000+ rounds.
Integral dovetail mount... no stupid cost cutting measure of attaching a base onto a round action with tiny screws.
User swappable bolt handle... brilliant!
Field strippable in 10 sec..

I think the Finns made a war time rifle, something they could mass produce cheaply for their national defense, and called it a "hunting rifle"...
And smoother then most custom actions!

I'm no gunsmith ,but can someone tell me what is so wrong with Sako 85's. I only ask as I've got 3 and love them. They will all out shoot me ( under 1 moa ) and seem to be very well made ??

Browning X-Bolt. About the best budget rifle there is currently.
Sako? Long gone. They don‘t even have a proper recoil lug recess in the stock any longer. Ridiculous.
Bugger all wrong with my Ssko’s... 1/2 moa is a breeze. As a matter of interest, how many have you owned which didn’t perform as per makers guarantee...?
Just asking,
DG

I think it’s the way they built them down to a price. With use of plastic parts that the 75 and preceding rifles didn’t have.
Funny old bunch stalkers I have an “over designed piece of crap” iirc according to one of the members on here (not directly but I own the same make)

Maybe, but a Finnish shooting friend of mine bought a Sako S20 back on the summer and says he can't see himself going back. He's only ever had Sakos and the odd Tikka.

Feel Sako have lost their way abit and I three of them but the s20 is not my cup of tea, if I was buying a factory rifle I would go sauer in a steel action obviously second hand.

Older Sako (75 or pre) or as many others have said a T3, nothing to go wrong and well proven with good aftermarket stock availability. I love my T3 and TRG-S but grew to dislike the Sako 85 I had for a few reasons.
Alternatively I also love the Mauser M12 impact and regret selling the one I had.
What did you not like on the sako as I am currently looking at them

Hi , I'm just wondering on peoples opinion.

Looking to purchase a 30-06

Wondering what peoples opinions are on rifle brands.

I love Sako but they are hard to find and expensive.

Been recommended Sauer , Tikka

Does anyone else have a brand that's worth looking into? Not interested in wooden stocked rifles.

Browning x Bolt Synthetic stock Fluted stainless barrel Can't go wrong I have one and high I really like it
I have a Tikka T3X Super Varmint in 25-06 and it is accurate and slick however the stock is very functional albeit ugly, magazine works every time and Tikka accuracy speaks for itself. A stainless Remington 700BDL 270Win in a Bell & Carlson stock has been my go to rifle for 20+ years however my other Rem700 in 300Winnie wears a H-S Precision stock and the material in the stock is definitely better than the B&C in density. Also look at a CZ 557, I have a 6.5x55SE in full timber stock and it is very good for the money and accuracy is right up there, everything is old world steel.

I'm pretty interested in this point of view. I like the Sako 85's generally. I admit, I haven't done a nut-and-bolt strip down, but I wasn't aware of any plastic parts.

Not an action I have firsthand experience of. I do have a 75, I may of miss remembering the 85 having a plastic trigger guard. Something to do with the bolt shroud too iirc. It was an opinion that seemed to be common even if not correct.

Ive had 2 sako 75's. The first one shot well and the 2nd 1 shot exceedingly well. I now have a 85, 1st bullets I tried through it was cr@p. Second bullets shooting better. The lack of a proper recoil lug in the 85 just doesn't seem good.

Both tick a lot of boxes for me. 5 shot mag. Good triggers. Able to extract a unfired round, and before it comes fully out of the ejection port, tap it with fingers and push it back into the mag, leaving the bolt open. Also bolt can be opened whilst still leaving safety catch on. The 75's seemed a bit heavy and numb. All mine have been stainless synthetic 270w

I think you are describing the Tikka T3. As far as I can see, the objection most make in relation to Sako 85 vs 75 is the recoil lug design on the 85. As I said, I like the 85s but have shot a fair few 75s in different formats and it's hard to really drive a wedge between them.

As my contribution to this thread generally, despite my Sako 85 fanboy status, I think the best stalking rifle I have handled is still the Sauer 202. Mine is the Outback so it's lightweight and happens to be chambered 6.5x55; the favoured round of discerning shooters since the vikings brought it to these shores in about the 9th century. :-D

No definitely the 85 not the T3. The specific reasons are not necessarily accurate. At the end of the day it was some years since the 85 replaced the 75. Built down to a price or ruined by the accountants were definitely directed at the 85.

Savage rarely get a mention - I have one that hasn’t yet come out to play as acquires start of lockdown (otherwise know as boat fishing season!) so things got in the way. Seems ok and rumoured to be generally very accurate, don’t often see them in the gun shops though.

My local RFD doesn’t stock them. For whatever reason the resale/secondhand value is not anything like that of other brand’s.
Edit. I should say round here anyway.
