Need a bit of advice and recommendations.
In the process of building a 9” retaining wall, 3ft tall, brick faced.
wife wants to have a couple of those recessed brick led lights.
has anyone fitted them ? Are they easy to do ? Recommend me a decent light, as I’d like it to last more than a few months !!
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Here's one - there are plenty out there. Dont ofget the cable tubes and ease of access - these lights tend to be 'brick sized' which is helpful. I have fitted them in an existing wall by chasing out for the cables but DIY will allow you to feed the cables in from the back of the light.

You'll need a core drill that will leave an aperture that accepts the size of the light fitting you buy. Spend good money on your LED fitting. Cheap LED's overheat quickly and die. It's all about heat dissipation and the cheap ones have none!

You can run the mains cable in conduit and hide/bury it behind the wall. Get the round type that all the joins and t pieces stick together with solvent weld. If you don't drill all the way through the wall with the core bit and then drill a hole the same size as the conduit to go through the last bit to at the back you can poke the conduit through and seal it up with silicone. Your outdoor mains for the lights will ideally come from its own circuit on the consumer unit. And you'll need an ip rated exterior switch to switch the lights on and off. Remember to leave enough room in the back of the hole that the lights sit in for a service loop so you you can wire them up and then pull them out again to service if needs be.

You can essentially daisy chain the lights together on the same circuit. If they have terminals on them you'll put your mains incomer and then a link out to the next light in the same terminal-
Ie. Live mains in and live link to next light in the live terminal, and so on for neutral/earth.
If the light fitting doesn't have terminals and has a hardwired tail you can use the modern version of terminal blocks which are called Wago clips. These are great and work well for joining cable in these scenarios. You'll need the ones with 3 terminals on so you can have link in and out as well as the light fitting tail for each L/E/N

Hope that helps

Thanks for that
I intend to fit them when the wall is being built so that should make it easier to wire.
I intend to run the mains from the garage and the switch will be in the garage.
Can you suggest a good LED ?

There's literally hundreds or brands and all different shapes and sizes. If you have a branch of TLC electrical or CEF near you then pop in and ask them what IP rated lights they have for the purpose. They'll be able to steer you in the right direction. Just tell them you want something that will stand the test of time 👍
