What pick up?

Is the one from Australia going to be for sale in the uk. It probably has the same gizmos and looks but different engines! They have a 3 litre Dmax in Australia we don’t have them here.... shame!

Sadly I think your right, I would definitely go for the bigger engine if over here.

Currently on my 3rd Amarok, had 2x 2.0ltr and now 3.0 V6.
Since 2012 never had an issue.

As said in a previous post they no longer make the Amark as a new model is due out in 2022. But as this is going to be a rebadged next model Ford Ranger, i wont be buying one.
Of what is out there now, i would buy a new 2.8ltr Hilux.

Have you noticed much difference in MPG with the V6 over the old 2ltr ones?

I would say roughly 30 miles difference per tank.
My V6 is also the 255hp one, so 75hp more than the previous 2.0 version, and chalk and cheese to drive.

Best engine on the market for the current picks ups, and one of the reasons i wont buy the next one if they go back to a 2.0ltr, and a Ford one at that.

I have the high output V6 Amorak as well, I heard they were stopping production so got one whilst still available, specified it with diff locks, underbody guards, the upmarket steering with with all the controls it's a great piece of kit, really comfortable for thrashing up to Scotland from Essex, loads of grunt and with BF Goodrich tyres on 20 inch rims it's been great off road as well. Just put a concealed front winch on though just in case!! . If you can still get one I would really recommend them

I have a Navara on a 2016 plate, done a 100k Auto never let me down, in and out of fields n muck a lot. Cheaper than most of the other pickups in the market, after driving a ranger & Hilux this won hands down on the comfort of the drive and value for money.

Went from top spec Amarok to top spec ranger. Amarok is like a car to drive. Take some good boots or wellies though. You’re better off on foot off road with the Amarok. Useless off road, even with diff lock.

can’t knock the wildtrak. 3.2 engine version, 18 plate. Slight criticism is that the interior smells of plastic, to the point you can taste it when brand new.

The biggest selling point for me with the ford is the heated windscreen! It’s the only pickup with it.

Mine is quite modified and runs 285/70 R17 STT Pro’s. Not the quietest tyre, but very capable. Driven to and up the alps. No dramas. The Amarok was a bit more comfortable running AT2’s.

MPG was similar in both. Amarok was 32 mpg I think. The ranger is 30 ish.

I was tempted by the Arctic trucks navara with front and rear diff, that would be proper bit of kit. Couldnt face scraping the windscreen though

Did you have the standard tyres on the Amarok as I must admit I've been very impressed with mine, been through some really deep muddy fields wet grassy slopes etc, a couple of places where I thought is this really wise but it hasn't let me down yet but I have got 20 inch BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2's on it

Gave up on the Hilux, Constant parking sensors beeping for no reason, problem with one of the cylinders on the engine, In the 18month I had it it had 2 new rear bumpers and 1 new front bumper due to parking sensor issues, when it was working and driving across fields the sensors would constantly beep because they couldnt be switched off.
They had mine for a week to sort the engine out, I went to pick the car up and hadnt drove off the forecourt and the engine management light came back on, When I went back in to see the service guy he laughed and said very funny because he thought I was winding him up, another week later before the new part came in, Gave up and went for the new L200.
I am interested to see how the new 2.8 Hilux perform but I lost faith with the last model.
Ouch! Yeah I can sense the disappointment with that!

I also had ko2s. 255/65 R18s if I recall correctly. Don’t quote me on that. I had the auto version. I think the ranger is better in 2wd that the AWD VW system.

I hope the new Ford/VW pick up is 4x4 rather than AWD. The VW engine and the Ford running gear would be a great combo

Hilux. Isuzu is underpowered, despite no Adblue being a plus. Mitzi - leaving, VW - ending, Mercedes - ended, Ford - hear of a lot of electrical issues with the fleet where I work. Navara - seems ok, but new ones are huge.
Hilux will be bringing out a 2.8 this year in addition to the 2.4. Diff lock on all models. 5 year warranty.
Even 2nd hand they are superb, hold their value and do well. Very early 'new' models have had issues with windscreens craking, electro/camera gizmos playing up but these should be sorted under warranty.
Cracking windshields makes me think it can only be caused by weak (not stiff enough) chassis members and or body stiffness and I was a body engineer for 50 years and do know my stuff, so think twice about buying one, it is not something you can stiffen up yourself, a very expensive redesign/retool by Toyota would be the only fix for that.

Misti are shipping out, although I have had two in the past, personally I wouldn’t go there now. Ford Ranger don’t seem to be as good as they used to be, Navara are marmite, but my good buddy loves his, it is quite new though and has a custom built shooting top.

I will be looking to get a newish pick up next year as our sole vehicle, I have a 16 year old Ranger which is an absolute dream of a truck, just the thing for hooning around the lanes and tracks of Dartmoor and chucking dead things in the back, we also have a 2 year old VW SUV, which we got new, I am NOT allowed to put dead things in that one!

So, my first choice of a newish, used truck...........Hilux, top of the range, I would get top of the range as they hold their price better.

However, there is an all new Isuzu D Max soon to be in the U.K, according to the Aussie reviews it is a real cracker of a pick up, knocking the rest and setting new standards.
What is top of the range Hilux is it the 3.0 invincible? And why is auto better ?

Good article in this week's Farmers Weekly about a firm who import Series 70 Landcruisers (Pickups and Station Wagons) in to the UK. Look amazing but twice the price of a Hilux

I love my Hilux though and much prefer it to the Amrok I used to borrow, certainly for towing. Big discount for BASC members as well. My only regret is that I wish I had got a dropside chassis cab, far better for loading pallets etc
