Covid jab tips

And I agree it would be a criminal waste if there is any left-over vaccine at the end of the day. Good tip on taking a non-jabbed "carer" with you. I have heard it is SOP to have a short-notice list ready for the end of the day/no-shows.

I agree, I think it is a great idea that they do this and as I understood it the instruction from government, when they realised that some days there was vaccine left over, was that no drop of vaccine was to be wasted. If they've vaccine left over at the end of the day I honestly don't care who gets it - if the people involved phone their family that is 100% fine with me as those are people who won't need done again and so in the longer term it improves things for everyone. What we need here is flexibility rather than people who are "entitled."

Had the Oxford on Friday. To date the only side affect is I’m drawn to long-forgotten LP’s that need to be played loud.

You need to consider that if you were like this before you got the vaccine then it probably isn't actually a side effect of the vaccine :-)

For some strange reason I've taken a sudden liking for the Talking Heads in the last 3 - 4 days, a band I never previously liked. I'm certain it is nothing to do with you getting the vaccine!

We both had our jabs in and out in less than 10 minutes, felt a bit ropey next day paracetamol fixed that next jabs for early May.

At this point in time, they are still jabbing the 16 - 64 cohort who have underlying conditions, so you you will see younger people getting done. The healthy people from 60 are theoretically the youngest age group being done. They haven't called the 55-59 group yet.

Having said that, it is GP-led, so there will be some variation on this.

It is moving far more quickly in some areas. My younger brother for example (lives in Surrey), got his callup last week and has had the first dose. He is 54. No underlying health conditions. His neighbours of similar age also. They had both Pfizer and Astra Zenica. They were doing Astra Zenica that day, but it could have been either. I'm not bothered which I get, as long as I get it. I am not a sceptic.

I got my callup last week and am booked in in ten days time. I am only a few years older. No health problems. East Sussex. It is not all GP led. Mine will be done by a Pharmacy in the National scheme, since I am locked down far away from my GP's area.. Booked online, so easy, just enter NHS No. Name. Date of birth, Postcode. Select and choose what's most convenient.

I presume that there is some sort of check from this basic information as to whether you are yet entitled. I am. Certainly not in the 16-64 cohort with underlying conditions.

This is a triumph of organisation ISTM, and going even faster than predicted. Better to over deliver than over promise. Pretty much all EU countries are envious, and way behind. Which will cost them more lives, whichever way they try to spin it.

Start here: Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination

As to how things are going for the second wave, in the UK, see Official UK Coronavirus Dashboard and be encouraged.

It was all looking pretty scary late January, but not so much now (mutations excepted). And some sort of a grip on border controls put in place. Further work still needed there.

I had the Pfizer one and it felt like a dead arm for 24hrs then no issues.
Sis-in-law had the AZ one and was laid low for four days!
Worse was that at her school (she’s a teacher) there were a group of them all had the jab and 8 were off for the next few days. How good was that planning?

Had the oxford about 3 weeks ago. Both of us had aching joints the next day and fine the following. The only thing I would say is. No Pain no gain. Roll on the second. J

Had mine a week ago, Astra Zenica, no after effects on day 1, bit dizzy with soreness at the point of the injection on day 2, no problems since. Didn’t do anything differently after the jab either. 👍🏻

My jab is a week away but I have ordered some Chris Isaak CDs.

Ouch, bad choice. To be honest i didn't start behaving weirdly (at least musically speaking) until after I got the jab. If you do weird stuff before getting it I'm not at all sure you can blame that on the jab.

Got my first one next week, I have ordered Robbie Williams Greatest Hits, nothing would make me feel worse than listening to that pri*k.

Talking if tips.
I had an AZ jab a week ago. No immediate side effects except fatigue the following day, but as I'd been working in arduous conditions I didn't think anything of it.
But since early last week I've been experiencing extremely unpleasant abdominal pain. Its a radiating ache in the stomach/liver area right under the diaphragm. I was worried at first it was my liver of pancreas but eating and drinking set it off instantly so it would seem to be gastric. For two days I didn't dare eat or drink anything but water. Didn't go to work on Friday because I couldn't face going to bed the night before, knowing as soon as I lay down I'd get this sickening dull ache, like the pain you get after being punched in the guts and having the wind knocked out of you. Wednesday night I came close to dialing 111 in the middle of the night.

Then yesterday afternoon, almost seven days to the hour since having the jab, the pain stopped. I since done a bit of googling and abdominal pain is one of the side effects.
So I would say to anyone having either jab, take it easy for seven days. Don't resume any medication for seven days or start taking dietary supplements and don't overindulge spicy foods and avoid alcohol, just in case.
There are a host of other side effects as well but they all seem to stop suddenly after a week. Some people experience nothing but it may be best to go steady for the week after having it, like you would if you were convalescing.
IF it's more than 48 hours after the vaccine, it unlikely to be the vaccine

I had the jab and felt mildly wobbly for the first 24 hrs and a bit worse the day after - no real pain, rather like being 'spaced out with flu'. Given I'm 70, comparing the benefits from not expecting to infect people or die in an intensive care ward, it simply is the best thing to do. One more and its a pint of Guinness in the pub on Fridays.
For what its worth, I would encourage everyone to have a jab, if you don't you are a liability to yourself and the NHS and everyone else.
