My head torch has died - recommendations on what to replace it with?

I used a Perzl Tikkina, along with a couple of Perzl Core rechargeable batteries, for the last couple of years. It's used daily during during the winter months. Lightweight and comfortable to wear.

I have 2 thrunite head torches. I think one is a th10, it a good beam on it runs on a single 18650 battery but you do need a charger for it. I also have a th20, it is a bit of a floody beam for my liking, runs on a single 18650 and you can charge it via usb. They have lasted years of nightly use without any problems. I think the fact there are no external wires help on this account. I have had ledlenser, petzl, cluelites and they only lasted a few months

Another vote for Fenix

Mine is still going strong after 3 years hard use, previously had led lenser but find the Fenix far more robust and more comfortable.

I picked up one of these rechargeable headtorches for a tenner - still don't know why I got such a good deal on a brand new product. For a tenner I thought that I couldn't really go wrong, but it has surpassed my expectations. I'd happily spend the £25 rrp on one. White light in three different intensities, red light mode and strobe mode. The blurb from the manufacturer says:
  • Up to 280 lumens brightness
  • 15-85 metres adjustable beam
  • CREE XPG3 S2 white LED & 5mm Red LEDs (x2)
  • 7 lighting modes including SOS flashing
  • IPX6 water resistant body with adjustable head strap
  • Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (included)
  • USB charger lead included
  • Power and charging indicators
  • Up to 110 hours battery life

I will watch this with interest - I have not been impressed with my recent ones (all petzl)

What problems have you encountered

Was going to say Petzl TACTIKKA+

Helps when it's free ;)

Anyone who recommends one with a battery connected to the lamp via wire, and where the battery position is at the back of the head, is wrong.

Try driving with one on and find out why (yes, you need to keep one on your head at all times whilst doing night work!)

Tried loads over the years
For carp fishing shooting etc been using a Wowtac A2s uses a 18650 usb rechargeable battery
Lasts ages and is unbelievably bright on the highest setting
Can pick them up off Amazon about £30 worth every penny.

The problem with cheapo torches is that they may well work good and indeed some give out a good beam. But then you leave it in the car for a couple of months or somewhere, then when you eventually go to use it, the insides are all furred up and the batteries have leaked and it's toast. Which financially is okay because they cost peanuts and you just get another. But the problem is that when you want it....

I've got a Petzl Swift RL headtorch. 3 settings (low med high), along with adaptive settings (if you've got good ambient light then the light output automatically drops, helps with battery life).

In max power setting it lasts at least 3 hours, is rated for 5-6 hours in medium setting, and 8-10 hours in low mode.
Recharge is by USB - that might be a downside to you, a light that takes standard AA batteries might be a better option

Not cheap, but utterly reliable.

Petzl do one called a tikka - you can get one that even has a red light - it’s fairly basic reliable and cost effective. It’s the one I use most.

Depends what you need it for, at work we have led lenser which I have to say are absolutely fantastic , tight beam which is adjustable, but then I also have one that I bought a a few quid from decathlon, perfect for walking the dogs at night or even dressing rabbits in the dark
