First word begins with F.
Ban unsupervised livestockI have found both the wire and the bamboo framed lanterns littered around the farm. Some of those obviously chewed at by the cattle. They are a serious hazard to livestock, wildlife and property.
As an aside. While at school I wanted to do an experiment with what was basically a Chinese lantern. I was told at the time that it was illegal to let an unaccompanied (ie not a piloted balloon) flame aloft.
I don’t know what specific law it was or if it was an excuse to prevent said experiment.
But if it was law. When was it repealed? If it wasn’t then they are already illegal.
5-grains of Varget instead paper caps is SHADO’s high-technology secret weapon in defence of every thatch in the land.Ohhhhhh, is that a metal one? My brother had one and it fired the rocket as well.
And that's the best reason for a ban. (Although I believe there are more made with thin dowel now. Whatever. Mostly made in China. Best place for them.)Mrs Moo Cow would probably go for the ban, particularly when having had a punctured rumen.
You ****er. I love rollmops.I'm sure we could all sit here and list the stuff we find harmful. I agree with you re salmon-farming, but I would also add: sugar, salt, bleach, shampoo, diesel, tactical-beards, red trousers, roll-mops, pollen, wasps, nose-rings, green hair, Packham, and anti-libertarian governments.
I'm just not a fan of bans (apart from the obvious things like killing one another and pinching stuff). They are blunt instruments for a complicated world, and I am yet to see a government smart enough to understand the simple; never mind the complex.
I'll disagree with you on that, BASC are supposed to be defending shooting, something I personally feel they have lost sight of. When asked what they were actually doing to change the licensing system (their words not mine) it went awfully quiet and it turned out they weren't.Astonishing. The usual gum bumpers managing to turn BASC support....together with an number of other rural bodies....for a very worthwhile and much needed move by the NFU, into a vehicle for their own childish and bizarre anti BASC sentiment. Go away and grow up.
If i play really loud music through the night on a landowners land, spill 1000 gallons of diesel, or a million other antisocial things, i will upset the farmer and lose my permission. Can’t believe some of these comments. If you upset the farmer/landowner, they’ll tell you where to go, and there goes your permission down the drain.
Conor,I have read all the comments and I take on board concerns about us supporting this campaign and I will pass that back to colleagues. The NFU have asked us and a range of other organisations to sign the joint letter to the minister and to raise awareness of the campaign and that we have done across social media yesterday and I think its only in this forum that there have been concerns raised which is perhaps food for thought.
The organisations signing the joint letter were:
Our support for the campaign on social media yesterday was not to the detriment of the many other shooting and conservation related projects we are doing day after day across the team and across the UK. As regards firearms licensing there were recent updates on the firearms league table and on the PCC elections.

Thanks, your input and advice are duly noted, if they're already banned by most local authorities, how come there’s still a problem?Your 'considered advice' is of no consequence. The damn things are dangerous and are already banned by most local authorities. The sooner thay are outlawed the better.
Are you seriously saying that BASC should NOT express an opinion or support the NFU in this matter? What money are they spending in co-signing this proposal? Get a grip.
Thank you BASC for supporting this, and for letting us know that you are so doing. Ignore the muppets amongst us.
If there was an open poll of BASC members on what matters this wouldn't even fea
I'm not saying they shouldn't be banned or licenced, personally I think they are a danger to livestock and I'm sick of picking them up. BUT, I don't expect our largest shooting organisation to feel the need to get involved in the matter when the NFU already have, I certainly don't recall the NFU getting involved in many shooting matters, then again neither does BASCAll of you lads saying don't ban them are happy for me to come round, set fire to a load of tat and chuck it all in your garden? If you're lucky it probably won't set any of your property on fire, so it'll just be all the left over bits for you to pick up after![]()
What 'brass'? Please explain? Thanks, your input and advice are duly noted, if they're already banned by most local authorities, how come there’s still a problem?
I have no issue with BASC et al expressing an opinion, but throwing their members brass into an open pit is not going to help anyone, not a single one, except maybe the very expensive senior councils involved.
