Anyone got any experience with Southern Cross small arms stock on howa 1500 at all?
Looking for a decent chassis style stock that isn't super expensive and this looks fairly decent

I can’t comment on the stock you’ve mentioned, but today I had arrive an MDT oryx chassis stock for my Howa 1500 long action to replace the boyds stock. First impressions of the stock are good, a well thought out system, good build quality, not overly heavy considering it’s all metal other than the changeable covers. Optics warehouse has short action models on offer for £395 at the moment.

Thanks mate I was also looking at that, don't suppose you have a pic of yours in it at all? Would it be okay for stalking in your opinion?

I’ll have some pictures shortly as I’m going to fit it in a bit. Mines going on my 7mm rem mag which is my stalking rifle.

Thank you, look forward to seeing it, I've just picked up a 2nd hand .243 howa 1500 as a bit of a project, it's currently in a laminates thumbhole stock which has a little bit of wear so will clean that up and get the thread re-crowned, then it's just a case of putting the stock etc on

MDT XRS I think better suited than the Oryx for stalking I'd say

I was in exactly the same position you are in, had a tatty thumbhole laminate and wanted a chassis.. so... I got the tools out and made a frankenstock 😂. I figured nothing lost. It's not to everyone's taste I'll grant you but it ticks every box I want it to and it outshoots me. I've got a rail forend for accessories, adjustable cheek piece and butt pad, detachable mag and it's rock solid (albeit a touch on the heavy side)Screenshot_20210511-203458.webp

Fits like a glove. Plus plenty of room to fit a larger profile barrel at some point.

That looks really quite good in all honesty!I just want to do away with the wood for this rifle

Got a GRS Berzerk stock that will fit a SA 1500.
Been fitted for a day then removed £250 posted, in black.

I've got an Oryx. It's ok as a foxing rig but I'm not sure I'd want to drag it around for stalking as it's a bit of a lump.View attachment 205780
Im waiting for fingers crossed a purchase of a sake 85 synthetic for my general stalking rifle but has just got a howa 1500 as a bit of a project, as i don't range shoot I would use for stalking but not likely to be all the time so weight shouldn't be to much of an issue
