First Buck

Been a busy year so far, and especially lately.

Managed to finally get on the DSC1 coarse this Thursday and Friday after 6 months and more of trying, and all went well that end gladly.
I needed this for the syndicate ground I'm getting on, and also for ground that I help a good friend on.

Anyway as thanks for helping my mate he asked to get me out my first Buck. I gladly accepted.

Plan hatched and it was a 4am meet at his before heading to the ground for a look see. Arriving we seen a few deer as soon as we got into the ground, all either Doe's or yearlings though.

We headed up the track and parked up to have a look round and get ourselves ready. We seen a couple of deer at various locations, and a plan was hatched for me to head down a route and meet up after a few hours at a RV. My mate sent me towards some deer at around 500-600 yards while he headed up the hill in the pickup.

I set of down a clear fell and towards the boundary fence around 300 yards away and started to make my way towards a restocked area (oh and by feck the midge were having a feast already).

Movement to my right got me started only to find it was 2 geese. So moved on and turned up towards a hill and set myself for the slog knowing it was going to be rough going mainly due to the ground conditions. So deep breath and took a few steps before looking up to be stopped in my tracks. Dead ahead a deer at around 100-120 yards.

Quick look thru the bino's confirmed a nice Buck and sudden rush of adrenaline.
Sticks set up and rifle set I concentrated on calming myself down with some slow breaths and waited for the shot.
It came and instantly the rifle barked and the Buck folded on the spot.

A memory was made and I was happy with the shot and outcome. Not so much the drag out all the same 😬

Hi Olaf

The deer was butchered today so still to enjoy the fruits of the labour.

As always I share out the venison between family and friends (though do tend to keep the lions share of the loin)

Burgers will be kept for the family barbecue along with a few steaks

Good for you and I hope you have some superb meals from it. Don’t forget to post some pictures of one of the venison dishes you make, also don’t give too much away as they don’t have much meat on them as it is ......
Kindest regards, Olaf
