View attachment 208895This to me is ideal (Fallkniven PHK with black rubber handle), as Sciandally has pointed out. I do however find the standard 4 inch blade a little wanting in some situations so the extra inch on the PHK makes sense. For a shorter blade I like the Enzo Trapper 95 (wood handle on mine) which is great if just dealing with Roe View attachment 208894
I'll take a photo tomorrow when I dig it out of the car.
The blade is too thick for taking the backsteaks off - a thinner profile fits against the bones better.
As to the price - so what? If I hadn't thinned it down I wouldn't use it, and the money would be completely wasted. Now I have something I'm happy with. As for the lamination, I don't see what I've lost. The edge is what matters. I don't cut down trees, try and pierce armour or anything other than process deer in the bush and stick the very occasional pig. For this, I want a useful blade shape and good edge retention. I've got that.
P.s. I threw the plastic sheath away too - do I go to a deeper pit of hell for that?
Here we go, have already ordered a sandwichHi all, I’ve been using a fallkniven f1 knife which I really like. The blade shape and thickness is great and I love the convex grind but it’s a little long. Anyone using something similar but with a shorter blade?
I wasn’t having a go at all, merely interested with the thought process. It’s your knife so crack on!! I can see your point about taking back straps off but I use a boning knife for that which is probably better still. Shame about the plastic sheath, I would have bought that off youI'll take a photo tomorrow when I dig it out of the car.

Have you thought about just using your existing F2 but not pushing it in as far?
Failing that. The Enzo fisher has a similar profile and you can buy a blank for 30 odd quids. Could you regrind it following the same shape but make it shorter?

Or get a custom maker to just make you a shorter bladed version but that's going to be pretty expensive.
Mora do a few fillety profile knives but you didn't seem to fussed on them earlier in the thread.
Another option might be to find a kitchen knife like a Victorinox and have someone make you a scabbard?

My issue with the length of my blade is that I can’t reach the end of it with my finger.
