Jess de Wahls

I never thought I'd find myself campaigning on behalf of a feminist artist who produces works with such delightful names as 'Big swinging ovaries'. However, these are strange times...

Jess de Wahls has just been 'cancelled' by the Royal Academy of Arts for saying that, in her opinion, there are only two genders. Personally, I don't care how many genders there are: I had always assumed two, but that matters not. What matters is that artists (and the rest of us, for that matter) must be free to debate and offend.

Please buy her merchandise and share her story.

Best,

Carl

Well this is topical.

This from today's news.

Laurel Hubbard

New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard has become the first ever transgender athlete picked to compete at an Olympics, in a controversial decision. Officials have selected her for the women's weightlifting team for Tokyo 2020, after qualifying requirements were recently modified

On a personal level, I have a great deal of empathy for those who feel they were born into the wrong gender.
On a weightlifting level; not entirely sure I would feel her inclusion is fair on the other competitors. The results will be interesting.

So she states her opinion and gets sanctioned for it? What happened to 'free speech'? :-|

Personally, I have no truck with this 'gender' nonsense. There are two genders, male or female, and (in my opinion) anyone postulating otherwise is a damn fool. They can pretend all they like, but with the exception of hermaphrodites, each and every human being born is either male, or female. It's past recovering now, but this bloody idiocy should've been quelled before it even got started.

Just my opinion

I’m quite happy with my gender but I definitely feel that after a good few years of hard work and with my body starting to show signs of wear and tear I’d like to identify with someone born in the early 1950’s and start claiming my pension and having more time to do things I love rather than having to keep working and paying taxes.

Surely if people can change something as definite as their sex the trivial matter of how old you are should be a breeze.

Not sure where I need to go to apply but I will definitely feel that my human rights have been abused if I’m turned down.

I am reasonably happy with my male body although overweight but, would be interested in adding some female parts given the chance.

I saw an ad recently for a BBC trainee - they plainly didn't want 'normal white people', their gender was immaterial.
I hope someone takes them to the Race Equality Commission.
This woman has some excellent work and does it, in part, for 'abused/refuge women'.
These days you can apparently do more harm by assuming rather than not assuming gender - not for 'normal' folks of course.
Remember the ???? who complained about the rail announcement which said "Ladies and gents, boys and girls" and the rail station actually apologised for it.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure you stand more chance changing from a man to a woman when it comes to weight lifting - we should create a new gender - not sure.

That is just plain ****ed up.
I don’t give a **** if a man wants to dress up as a woman and cut his dick off but he will never be female. All those female athletes that compete against this guy have a disadvantage. The whole competition is now a joke.

There are some rules about trans-females reducing their testosterone levels to some "acceptable" level; however, the issue of a level playing field for the contestants is something that does not sit well with what sport and fairness should be all about.

Was there not a story some years ago of "able-bodied" athletes competing in a wheelchair basketball completion?

Same thing. Just not sporting.

It’s not just about testosterone levels. Men are just built differently. You cannot tell me that the only difference between men and women is their current testosterone levels.
