New importation restrictions to the UK?

Anyone any information on the proposed new bill to regulate importation of dogs into the UK?
I dont have any first hand information but was told that there will be no importation of docked dogs and pups under 6 months, also that the bill has multi party support….tell me its not true, please?

Personally I don't see how it would have a major effect on illegal activities, crims will keep smuggling whatever there's a demand for.. All it will do is hinder genuine folk wanting to legally import a pup.

Too much has gone on in the pups mind before it sees its new handler... If anything in my mind it would worsen things for the pup, as it would lead to the possibility of people just stagnating a pup in a kennel until its 6 months old whereas if it had been allowed to travel earlier it would be in training with its new owner.

absolutely, it's been proven a pup before 16 weeks that's been given the right stimulus and careful training has more potential than waiting, for us 16 weeks before we can get them needs careful working on a breeders part 6 months would be impossible. reading through that piece is total crap and not been thought through by anyone knowing anything about dogs or why people need to go further afield to bring in dogs.

I can see the point of no dogs with cropped ears as it serves not function but to say no importation of a docked dog when it's still perfectly legal to dock in this country just shows how ill thought through this really is...

totally agree but the ear cropping could be something on it's own it serves no purpose but tail docking in certain breeds does, as we know, shows how somebody making up there own agendas can have bad consequences of the law abiding people who have genuine reasons for importing or tail docking, we have imported older dogs before but that was when an owner died and wanted the dog to go to a working home and we needed a working dog off the bat but it wouldn't be something a breeder would do every time not to mention costs involved and then think of the attachment issues for breeder and dogs, also the issue is with illegal imports so they will still import and bypass the system so all it does is ruin it for the law abiding person again this is wrong regards wayne.

I’ve just read the government blurb, what a load of illogical cobblers. It looks like the intention is to effectively ban puppy imports into the UK to prevent smuggling, which is already illegal, so why not use the existing legislation?
No one is going to hang on to a pup for 6 months for a prospective buyer.

Heaven forbid that our powers that be would actually want to do boring stuff like actually implementing existing legislation. It means that parliament and MPs don’t need to do or say anything and thus no column inches in the Daily Mail and The Sun.

Our government has forgotten the difference between being legislators and actually carrying out the executive function. There is a very big difference between passing legislation and then actually fixing the problem.

And as for Boris and his underlyings writing “Cobblers” - are we getting an improvement?

Ear cropping does have a purpose, if you have a fighting dog that you want to fight, less for the opposition to grab hold of. Totally against ear cropping and dog fighting. The ban on importing dogs with docked ears is a good idea but the sorts of people who dog fight will only get it done if they think its desirable and usually quite brutally so.

Whilst it is still legal to dock tails in this country it is only under some circumstances and not a general practice.

The first 16 weeks are the most formative part of a dogs life, I fear, as many others have opined, that breeders will not spend the time with puppies up to 24 weeks thereby settling a puppy up for a disastrous start in life.

The ban will not deter illegal puppy breeders/importers, it will only hamper the law abiding citizen, sounds all to familiar.

I should have said no legal purpose and all the things that they want to stop are illegal activity so why change anything other than proper checks at borders not stopping things for the legal law abiding person, like others it's just a way of banning things.

Bringing new blood lines in to enlarge the gene pool of certain breeds which have become too closely bred would be one reason.

I agree with most of what you say except i would like to point out that most of the imported cropped ear dogs are in the hands of the Chelsea sect and celebrities from the music/tv/film sect.
