Geco Zero 136gr?

Mentioned this deep in the depths of another post so may not be seen by as many so figured I’d start another thread.
Looking for a lighter weight factory lead free round after disappointing results with RWS HIT 165gr but being at the mercy of what’s available locally options aren’t great:

Does anyone have any real world experience of this round please?

Not on deer yet but do intend to. I can however tell you that they turn foxes into bags of jelly, 100 to 200 yards. Suggesting that they do what they say on the tin... being made of tin.. (apologies for the terrible joke.)

Small entry and small exit but bag of jelly, I didn't do an autopsy however it would suggest the tin cored pre scored hollow point front piece does pretty much shatter out internally and the hard copper base drives through.

Compared to barnes in 168gr on a fox and roe deer, bog standard solid copper.. clean zip in and out the chest and a run on. Follow up required, peirced lung and broken exit shoulder but no other damage.

Based on that would you say you’d expect a lot of meat damage on deer? Appreciate it may be guess work!

Maybe but maybe not, if you think about an 243 ballistic tip in to the 75gr range and the explosive exit you usually get on a fox.. the 308 136gr didn't do that. That suggests to me that the front tin core did the most damage internally, as it was jelly inside but the exit was just a hole in similar size to the exit, maybe a touch larger.
I think it'll be a good round to drop deer faster and ensure a more humane kill. Last roe I shot with solid copper, it was a pin hole through the lung, heavy breathing and head movement on follow up. I had similar with a fox. I don't want to chance that again.
If it does turn out to do more damage, then it may be more suited to a low to mid neck shot. But we shall see.
Even with a 308, I would want a round to do more damage than not enough and not doubt the rounds ability on a fox or roe if I see one, when out for Fallow

Thank you. What you’re describing does sound like it literally describes on the product blurb so I suspect I’ll grab a box and try them, fed up with pin holes and deer barely knowing they’re hit, next to no blood trail and plenty of scope to run on. Got to be worth a try. Appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Thanks

I'm having good success with Sellier and Bellot. .308, 110grs. Been out twice in sept on an estate that went lead free this season, two fallow bucks and three munties all dropped on the spot. One of the rounds failed to exit and I managed to find it, even all round mushroom and weight retention.

Appreciate the feedback but I’m limited by what’s available locally so only interested in the Geco for now cheers

Well that was interesting.

Just back from the farm. Me and my mate both have .308 Sako, zeroed at 100 yards for 150gr lead ammunition (Federal Premium).

My mate picked up five boxes of non-lead Geco in 136gr to test for an upcoming trip.

They were eye-watering expensive at £52 for a box of 20 rounds (£2.60 a pop)- (William Evans at Bisley)

Never have we prepared more methodically for a zeroing session.

I fired one non-lead at a target and it was on point. My mate fired one non-lead and one lead at a target and the holes touched. My two were slightly above bull, but I prefer it that way. Very little difference in POI for the two rounds. Shortest session ever.

Happy that we are good to go for next month's trip on the Sika: in so far as accuracy is concerned.

We will see how they perform in the real world environment, if we get onto any deer.

I used 136gn geco zero in my Blaser r93 and they performed pretty well. I did get quite a bit of damage on a CWD but the shot placement was a little high. On the fallow and muntjac I've shot with them I would say they performed just the same as the 170gn geco lead ammo that I use. And the POI for both are pretty much exactly the same so I know I can take either out and not have to worry about the zero.

Surprising how much difference there is in price from different shops. I was paying £39 a box.

I found the same, they were fractionally high and two clicks off but not really enough to worry. I shot a munty that evening which probably wasn’t a fair comparison and it made quite a mess, I’m out tonight to hopefully replicate the test on a red broadside on, we shall see.

I paid £40

That was the exit, despite being well into the ribs it pulled most of the stomach out with it. To be fair though, it doesn’t take a lot for any round to do that on something so small
