INFO-ALL KNIFE MAKERS!!!!

His Greenman forge page is still live but no posts since July and he Jeff is still on Facebook
But the selling account has disappeared
Strange and slightly worried 😦

I had ordered a knife from him and never got a warm fuzzy feeling that I’d get it.

@snake_2586 is absolutely brilliant, on the other hand. Very communicative and sent me updates throughout the projects he did for me. Brilliantly sharp knives and a very reasonable price as well!
Me personally have been dealing with mark for a while now. Very good chap to deal with and has sorted me knives find sheaths for me.

As for Jeff, we'll....

The accounts last filed October 2020 on Companies House don't make pleasant reading, and the next set are already overdue. At a guess, he's done with knife making

Not a good idea. The legal costs would be prohibitive, and "if" he can prove his case, better off to tell them to stick it, and get on with all the knives, people want him to make.

I do hope he takes legal advice though.

If a company was ever short sighted, it's Emberleaf. They have stated the Green Man Forge knife is the same as theirs, whilst they are charging 3 times the price for the same knife :-|

I suspect they will bitterly regret their actions !

The emberleaf is three times the price of greenmans £300 stalker knife!?
Man alive!

The reply from Emberleaf was that the knife had “failed” but was put right again with a new edge and sheath. How can a knife fail but be sorted with a new edge???

Probably a poor heat treatment - causing chipping, and thus requiring a new edge to be honed. But that is just a guess as it was not their knife.

So basically this guy had a moan about Emberleaf - and has now done a runner?

I'm no lawyer - but it sounds like a case of passing off

I do wonder how ALDI get away with it though

There is a whole history of a few thousand years of butt ugly knives...I think you are on a loser...honourable precedents...but what makes yours so much worse than anybody else's in order to enable yours to achieve that exclusive market cachet?

Alan
Ahah. Good point that man! Then what about “Butt Ugly Customer Knives”, why - you could buy one as a present and insult the recipient at the same time! Now that one really does have legs, gosh you could even abbreviate them to “Buck”, err, I sense another solicitor’s letter acoming, maybe just park that latter gem for now.
Must go, just off to to see the IP johnnies…….

Ah. Hello all, I have been searching for some time to see what might have been going on with Jeff Wiggins At Greenman Forge. I wanted to support him after his spat with the cael knife producers. Ended up ordering a top spec stalker knife with Damascus blade and a mammoth ivory handle. Doesn’t seem to be making knives this year as he is into his music. Time for the gloves to come off I think!

Thanks for the tip, just got myself a cracking knife from Mark, fed up with my experience with Jeff have you got any information on his current situation, is he still making knives?

Good call on Marks blades. I use one most days. Works just right on the roe and fallow. Very happy.
As for Jeff, no idea what's going on, I've not spoke to my friend about him since

Does anyone know if there is a group of people waiting for knives from Jeff Wiggins of Greenman Forge? Would be useful to share information on how he might be contacted?

The registered address for the business is 14 Wharfe Crescent, Pool in Wharfedale, Otley LS21 1LU, which on Google satellite images, looks like a home address rather than an accountants office.
Might be worth a Registered Mail letter from a solicitor on behalf of all that are owed monies or product.

Interesting, that would have been a £140 knife eighteen months ago, now on sale for £225. Really would have liked to have got one from Greenman but not very hopeful now.

They were crap, the one I got I moved on straight away. Poor quality steel and work. Rubbish edge, took an age to sharpen and then it didn’t hold brilliantly. Trust me, get your money back and walk away, they are cheap crap compared to some of the pro knife makers.

Just read this thread, amazing comments from some people, hope your support for the underdog was appreciated and you got your knives LOL.
Now for a history lesson and some facts, the cael knife was a knife made by emberleaf with a longer blade, it was seen at the southdowns countryfair by a friend who was thinking about purchasing it, after a discussion with emberleaf ( at that time a two man operation, making knives in a garage in Chichester) they shortened the blade to make the cael a.r mk1, the clipped end was there idea, after seeing how you place your finger on the tip to prevent puncturing the gut.

As to the prices of knives or come to that any product, you can make do with anything if you want to, I have owned some of the cheapest rifles /knives you can buy all have served me well, I have cheap knives that have never been used, and have expensive knives that are used daily that is my choice. I can only assume the loudest proponents against any custom knives just don,t like lovely looking knives, a bit like me with cars, never seen the point in spending a fortune on one.
I have no affiliation to emberleaf apart from being a customer of there’s over many years, but one thing I can assure you of is the quality of there products.

Thanks for the information/comments, I have got myself a knife from Mark at snakeknives which I am very pleased with. Hopefully I will be able to get a refund from Greenman Forge.
