Chokes working loose

The chokes on my Browning works loose they are flush fitting ones
I'm thinking of using some PTFE tape on the threads any other ideas

I just grease mine and check every so often a good nip with a key and they normally stop in place

They all do unless they are rusted in . External chokes helps as you can keep checking them.

I've never experienced a choke tube coming loose.
My choke tubes have always been lubed but not over lubricated, and I always use the choke key with just finger pressure nothing more as I have a record of over tightening threads.

I certainly wouldn't dream of using PTFE tape.

At least ptfe tape won't lock a tube in place, but its not that effective at tightening a thread up either.

If the thread is that loose it suggests poor manufacturing tolerances.
I've owned Lanber, Zabala, and Winchester shotguns that had multi chokes and recently bought an old Beretta with screw in chokes, none had sloppy threads.

FIxed choke 3/4 and full for everything, I do laugh at the choke twiddlers on the local clay shoot, Blaming the miss because they should have had 1/2 choke instead of Skeet lead in the wrong place is most likely the cause. I do have a Gun with chokes but they are extended ones and are easy to check between stands. I prefer fixed though.

DON'T put ptfe tape on them.

Its not a lube problem it's just normal expansion from heat. Maybe a bit more enthusiasm when putting them in?

If you go to a big shoot you will see the better guys just nipping them up by hand before they go into the stand. You can tell the guys with flush chokes as they have a sooty finger (oh er Mrs). Probably the real reason people shoot extended chokes, that and fashion.

Do remember to loosen them off when the barrel is still warm. If they get stuck you don't have to resort to frozen peas, just go shoot again and take them out when he barrel warms up

I despair at the basic knowledge....of not understanding how to keep chokes tight. Also with the ones you have "spare"
then you would think you might have worked out how to keep them from coming loose.
Basic maintenance of guns, keep a check of working parts just like oil and water air in the tyres...or do you call the AA?

How long have you had shotguns/rifles?
