Available: Stalking Opportunities in South East

Hi Willowbank. New forum member here - live in Kent (near Sevenoaks), I'm physically fit, practically disposed, insured, and genuinely a complete novice, sadly to the extent of not yet having a FAC - I'm a member of a rifle club, but coronavirus has put a hiatus on my plans in that regard.

I suppose a rifle is a prerequisite for the vacancy, but thought I may as well ask, and otherwise I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I'm in possession of one should you be on the lookout for new trainees in the future! Alternatively, is there any possibility/sense in joining a non-shooter to get more exposure to the fieldcraft/extra pair of hands for the working parties?

Thanks

I can vouch for Willowbank.
As i was one of those novice stalkers whom he took under his wing.
I learnt so much and that knowledge allowed me to grow in confidence and find a little patch of stalking of my own.
I spent 3 years learning and i will be forever grateful for the chance that i was given.
Good luck to whoever is excepted, as you wont be dissapointed.

Hi Willowbank, I have just come back on to the SD site, was on here for a few years from 2012 to around 2018 and was lucky enough to meet a few nice folks from on here. Not all stalkers, some long distance chaps, a lot of foxes and a couple of keepers.
Did my DSC1 a few years ago but have to admit that the opportunity to go out is generally scarce, it's practically impossible to get any permissions down this neck of the woods. Syndicates offer farmers so much they obviously take it and the amount of back stabbing is staggering.
So much so the last couple of years I've done mostly fox and rabbit and range shooting, although I do still hope to gain a lot more experience with stalking, gralloching and potentially do DSC2 at some point.
If you do consider taking on a rookie who is fit, able to carry a carcass and has an appropriate calibre and open ticket then I'd be very interested. Kind regards, Richard

Hi send me all your details via PM.

Thanks Willowbank.

Hi all, thought I would refresh this page....

I will shortly have room to take on another enthusiastic novice who is prepared to actively work towards DSC1, note only complete novices will be considered who actually live in Kent.

You need to be fit and already hold a FAC, previous Deer experience is not necessary.

Please PM ONLY your details and relevant information.

All the best, Willowbank.

what an offer. I too am east sussex, its hard to find anyone willing to share ground with, especially for stalking. I'm currently going in for my deer caliber and only have 1 piece of land where the owner was happy to put my rifle on there but don't want the deer shot, but I am able to go with a mentor on his ground and to look at doing my dsc1 + 2, with hopefully gaining a piece of land for myself, just for my own consumption.

Great to see experienced guys giving the novice a chance, too far away to take up the offer but if anyone can offer similar in Staff's, Derby, Cheshire, would be there in a flash and can be hands on and will help with anything...

Kent as a lot of people trying to learn to stalk deer Got my ticket as i had some land that had some deer on it got it all cleared only for it to be given away to wealthy friends from London. So only fox control with my 243 who knows next season🤞
