Wanted: Fallow ground .

The land adjacent to 'mine' has an 'old guy' managing it who has done it for years according to the landowner. I've never seen or heard him, observed a high seat or any other indicators. There's often a herd of 70+ fallow sitting in the field multiplying away.

I totally understand your approach uptonogood, I might have to knock on that door again! Atb

Agreed but also perhaps they're not all old in fairness?

And it does raise another question that I have considered for a while and hope isn't too controversial. I'm talking about how stalkers rate the worth of other stalkers in this community. Sometimes it seems that if you don't have access to tens of thousands of acres and shoot hundreds of deer a year you're considered inferior. I'd dispute that as if you're a decent guy who enjoys shooting, cares about deer welfare, are responsible and give a little back I don't care how many deer you kill tbh. Or the bragging rights relating to acreage.

Personally, I'd be happy with a modest shootable permission that could yield 6-12 deer a year for me personally (or more if a more serious cull were necessary)...but for my own needs that would be enough as I can't go out 7 eves a week (I don't sell carcasses...that might be another thorny issue!).

Good luck with your search 😊

Agree with all that sir .What happens here is comical .
There is land that holds good fallow numbers that raid the surrounding farms mainly at night .The holding farm has an elderly gent that is quite well known but has lost his momentum for want of a fitting description .
He used to be on the case therefore keeping the fallow mobile and spread out .He now likes to talk a good game ,makes all the right noises but only shoots a couple a year from his vehicle .Lads have tried to get on offering the landowner decent money but landowner isn’t having it .He’s about same age as the stalker and I guess they have been lifelong friends .
Dont have a problem with him myself as I’ve had the invite on there few times but what’s funny is his stance on it .He’s staying until he dies and is adamant no trigger happy lad is having a look in .
This impacts the bigger picture around us with crops raided at night ,bangers in fields and flashing road lamps .If only he’d give it up we’d all have fallow once more .
I lost my own fallow ground when it was sold to vegans and this in turn is now a sanctuary for marauding herds .
Ive all the gear ,the experience to do the job but so far no luck locally in getting more ground .Roe and muntjac aplenty but it’s the fallow that were / are my passion .

Don't forget your welcome down here in sunny East Sussex more fallow around than ever. Next year will be mental when t he does drop the young

This is only my lifetime experience so not trying to stir up a bun fight. I have to agree with the greed etc but another thing I see/find is Game shoots only deer shot is by the keeper/keeper's while doing their round then try to do a large cull when the game season ends . Unfortunately it's about money in most cases game shooting brings more money than Deer Stalking. After 14 years i gave up a very large estate where i was shooting hundreds of Fallow a season but honestly the hassle keeper's moaning us stalkers messed the drive/day up Tennant farmers moaning blaming the game shoot for us not being there every day. Did i enjoy the Stalking/Experience 100% yes but after 14years enough was enough. I'm very lucky having a few small pieces of Fallow ground where i now generally shoot at leisure now and again the Fallow get a bit bold and comfortable so give them the message. I do whole heartedly synthesis with the like's of uptonogood . Don't lose faith keep trying fingers crossed it will come good 👍

@stalkerboydy 🤙🏼
Thank you sir .
Ive been on those very same game shoots where that happens and is a balancing act between keeping landowner and keeper happy .If he’s a deer man all the better but if not it can be very tense at times .
Like you say an all out push end of season if you can find a buyer ,when the does are heavy in young .
Do you still play the synthesiser 🤭😁😁😁😁

I'll let you know if I hear of anything, but finding any ground in this area is a major challenge at the moment.
