Passport office vc Firearms Licencing- which is quicker or more inept?

Form R100 or has it gone up to Form R120 plus a Coke?
But at least in Africa, as once described to me an African politician, there is a system of direct payment to government officials for processing documents and good etc. African government’s cannot afford to pay civil servants, so if you want your goods processed through customs quickly you pay one price, if you are happy to wait there is a lower fee. Kind of makes sense.

Trouble here is that you pay high fees, but no way of short cutting the system. Unless you are Russian Oligarch donating to the Tory party.

From recent experience of arranging them for our boys, 8 weeks to notification of the passports dispatch, then a further 3 months for TNT do get them to our door.
Annoyingly NZ were quoting a one month turnaround for their grant of citizenship & issue of passport (which they are entitled to). The UK one arrived 6 hours before his departure to USA & that took me phoning every day for about an hour a day over 2 weeks.

Renewed my passport a month ago very easy online including the photo and it took about 2.5 weeks to arrive. I was kept upto date with email and by text on its progress through the system.

So I just walked in a letter from passport office of passport shaped size. Sent by 2nd class. I was getting really excited and planning all my trips to exotic countries. Less than 2 weeks after my application. Bloody hell expecting a formation of flying pink elephants To come overhead.

And when I opened it - there is my old passport with the corner cut off.

Be encouraged...that means the new one is also on its way.

Hmm. I got two texts saying my old one was its way and and then the new one - faultless process!

Well this has got my hopes up slightly. I need to renew my passport and need it back ASAP. This was the last place I was expecting to find info on it though.

Just to add to this debate, I've just renewed my 10 year driving licence, it took 7 days to receive. Zero paperwork photo and signature taken from passport. This includes a medical declaration to use a tool that causes a thousand time more heartache every year to users than firearms!

I'm guessing that shooters would be better served if firearms licencing was taken from the police and given to a guberment department.

Well my new passport has arrived. The whole point of Brexit was that we were going to get new Royal Blue passports.

So when I opened the package - well I suppose its Blue in the same way that the barrels of a fine shotgun a blue.

However to most the new British passport is Black, not blue. And if it is blue its so close to black that it is black.

Why I am I not surprised?

DVLA (or whatever four letters they use these days) are supposed to be taking ages these days by all accounts.
Hi.
Same with Office of The Public Guardian. They are taking months to process lasting power of attorney applications.

I have always found the passport office to be very efficient. If you want a very fast service use the facility at main Post Offices.

It has just taken four and a half months for my son to receive his new passport. Being just a kid, it's a real pain having to renew it every 5 years. This was his third uk passport since birth.

A frustration I know but the 5 year thing is to keep his photo/id up to date (think how much a child changesvin 10 years) and to help prevent a separated parent moving abroad with him untraced.
