44 mag = Steaks, burgers and sausages

My good friend Johan JVR on here sent some pictures of his Kudu hunt on his brothers farm 6500ha, posting is not his thing but with it being something different I grabbed some details and a few pictures.
He has been practicing on his farm out around 100m so was quite happy at that distance, then off to his brothers farm to find a kudu!
He took a rifle man along as a back up which is very sensible as any thing can run...
Finding them is not easy, getting into his range a bit harder but they did manage it.
A high lung shot glassed by his brother with it running 40 yards dropping stone dead. Distance was 110 paces
The 240gn soft point went straight through the soft ribs.

Ruger back hawk in 44 Mag

Well you don't need to have a long barrel and a big bullet proves all you need just enough bullet to do the job

Cheers for the write-up Tim. It is always interesting to see what others get up to. A great shot with a large wheel-gun. Did the job perfectly.
😎

Great write up, thanks! I think it’s new that he took it ethically with a revolver. Different areas of the world do it differently.

Shooting black bear or buff with a bow is odd....mind you it is SBD
See, and that seems totally normal to me. 😂 I actually made my own 590 gr arrows specifically to take down a bison. Arrows can be very efficient!

As a culler for 10 years also a very good maker of barrels from stock bar in his workshop on his gun drill with award winning comp hand lapped barrels. Going out hunting with a new toy for a break seems ok lol

He came here in 2019 with a full on 11 days of museums, farm and engineering work shop visits, braai's fireworks night foxing stalking eating sea food Jellied ells roll mops cockles lol
watching England lose the rugby 🤫

I was once told by an FEO that my marlin 1894 lever action rifle in 44 magnum with a 20 inch barrel, was a 30 yard gun!, I pointed out that they are used in the states on white tail deer out to 100 yards all the time. I asked if he had ever been deer stalking or owned any firearms…… the answer was no.

Good shot from a handgun, & By the way Tim, One for you to fix we found on this mornings hike, Although little evidence of bright yellow paint!
