Dear XXXX,
How, please might I ask you to contact Mr Jacob Rees-Mogg in his role as Minister for Brexit Opportunities?
This United Kingdom has left the European Union yet UK REACH is proposing onerous restrictions on the use of lead shot and bullets made of, or containing, lead by British sportsmen and women.
These proposals are not for continuation of the already existing ban of lead shot for shooting ducks that has existed already in Britain for some decades. Nor for sensible proposals such as those achieved in New Zealand as below.
I beg that you might ask Mr Rees-Mogg to look at the link where what is done in New Zealand is set out simply, set out well and is almost a model of sensible legislation. Would not that UK REACH adopt exactly the same!

The proposals are for a total ban.
I know that Mr Rees-Mogg was succesful in seeing common sense applied to recent firearms legislation proposed by the civil servants in relation to larger calibre rifles. These new UK REACH proposals will impact far more and will be far reaching even terminal for some lawful shooting activities.
And not even (as in New Zealand) any derogation for the .410" with which so many young boys and girls have learned to shoot with alongside a parent or other family member. The proposed ban is total. For everything. Game, vermin, stalking, clay pigeon shooting. All.

In the European Union (EU), a restriction has been adopted for lead in gunshot over wetlands (January 2021), and a restriction for lead in shot, bullets and fishing weights is in progress. This Annex 15 dossier prepared by HSE examines whether a similar restriction should be introduced into Great Britain (GB; England, Scotland and Wales) covering lead in ammunition in all habitats.
I would hope that having exited the EU that this desire of some in the civil service to continue to "cut and paste" laws from an organisation we have successfully left onto the Statutes and Parliamentary Acts of the United Kingdom be rejected.
It is is hoped that you might assist in this matter? And if appropriate ask the Minister for Brexit Opportunities to help and perhaps, in his role as that, allow me to have direct intercourse with him regarding this unwelcome post-Brexit carry forward.

Ah! It's worse! We even might decapitate man's best friend! There's two ways to stop a dog's tail from wagging. We can cut off the dog's tail (the approach presently of engaging with the HSE Consultation) or we can cut off the dog's head and kill it (thus my letter to Mr Rees-Mogg to decapitate the proposals at Parliamentary level). This is pretty much what happened, isn't it, with the Home Office large calibre rifle ban. The Home Office proposed. Parliament disposed!

To be serious, the general plan to axe EU law is another tory election gimmick that is dead in the water.

Following the shropshire by-election defeat I wrote to mine - next door parliamentary constituency. The local tory activists were enraged by DEFRA proposals (a farming constituency). He was fairly onside, engaged with DEFRA but then got a reply from Goldsmith.
I replied along the lines of ‘unelected appointed Lord’ thrown out by the electorate has NO MANDATE to introduce such legislation (trophy ban). Later it went in to suspended animation when other local difficulties hit the headlines .... it will be rolled out again. All of the bat**** crazy legislation is pre-written by politically and ideologically motivated civil servants, with twisted data to force ministers hand (Yes Minister is still quite accurate) and is pumped in the media in the aftermath of an incident....
Personally I hope JRM rips the HSE a new one for copying the EU REACH proposals lock stock and barrel. What was the point in leaving and what is the point of their staff if they just plagiarise the worst of available legislation?
The NZ model is sensible. Whether lead shot deer is sold in to the human food chain should be a commercial decision - based on customer requirements. The ability to shoot for one’s own consumption or away from watercourses should not be restricted.

He had a majority of 22.397 votes at the 2019 Election! But then again Mr Neil "Tractor" Parish also had a similarly large figure.
In the DT this morning, it alludes to BoJo the Clown backtracking on biofuel, citing the need to grow food crops instead of growing to produce ethanol in the middle of a global food crisis and likely famine in east africa.
Thats a key plank to his net zero policies. His timescales, like the HSEs, are just not workable.
Same with all the productive land put to solar farms
