Remington 700 GRS Bifrost Stock Fitment on Bergara B14 HMR?

Hi All,
I recently purchased, from our friendly classified section, a S/A Rem 700 Bifrost stock. After asking around I was under the impression that the “700 and Bergara b14 are the same footprint/clones etc etc” but when it came down to the fitment onto by Bergara 6.5 CM the bottom metal fitment from my Bergara to the stock were different, leaving me in a bit of a jam.

I contacted GRS and after a bit of messenger back and for they could directly assist/advise on that my options were:
- purchase the dedicated Bergara GRS Bifrost stock from us.
- call upon a gunsmith to mill out the stock.

both options not ideal.

I then reached out to Highland, a known importer of the GRS products, and put forward my situation. The response was They’ve never been asked and would find out and get back to me ( this did not happen).

It was suggested to purchase the Rem 700 magazine conversion kit (with bottom metal) and magazine allowing the correct bottom metal to fit. But this idea has not been confirmed possible and would be a costly trial and error. I also mentioned this idea to highland but they were unable to answer and reverted back to “we’ll get back to you”

So can someone put me out of misery… can this be done or have I made school boy error and will somewhat shortly be putting it back for sale?

Thanks All!

Nope, the whole 'Rem 700 footprint' is a big misnomer.

Firstly, factory Remingtons will use a bolt release which is next to the trigger, inside the trigger guard. The Bergara has a side bolt release.

Many variants of the Remington 700 have been produced, main ones being ADL, BDL and proprietary drop box magazine versions.

ADL (fixed internal magazine, stock has no floorplate) and BDL (floorplate) recievers are a close match, but the propreitary mag version can only be used with it's own stocks and magazine/triggerguard.

It looks like you have bought an AICS magazine style triggerguard.

Personally, would reccomend cuttting losses and selling the GRS. Any modifications you make will be permanent and substantially decrease value, as it is basically a plastic stock.

Thanks for reaching out!
Unfortunately my gut feeling was this would be the case. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake.

Thats an AICS bottom metal, if you had the factory fitment it should of dropped straight in. I bought a SA Rem 700 bifrost for my Bergara B14r and it fitted no probs.

I’m un aware of the previous owner switching out the factory bottom metal for an AICS one and surely he would of had to modify the standard stock to accommodate?

I too was going the same route as you. A very honest chap informed me that the 700 stock I was intending to purchase wouldn’t fit as they are slightly different. I have heard of some fitting but wasn’t worth the risk. I will just buy the correct Stock for the rifle. Sell it and buy the right one.
