Picatinny Rail Differences

Hello all
I have just bought a new thermal and paired it with some Innomount mounts so I have the facility to change it between my rifles.

I have a Howa 1500 in 223 which I mounted the scope on and zeroed in. All good.

I have then transferred it to my FX Impact with a Saber Tactical rail on top and the centres are different.

Is there difference in the 2 rails? I’m mounted on the 2 rear most grooves on the picture below on the Howa and then when I move the scope over to the other rifle the grooves don’t line up.

I’m contemplating buying a couple of rails and the innomount one piece for a c50. I wonder about tolerances with a split / two-piece pic rail as opposed to a one piece rail - which must be more reliable in terms of tolerances.

Watching for educated thoughts with interest.

Also the Innomounts were set for a nice snug push fit onto the 223 and I noticed if I hung the scope off one end the mounts were pretty lose on the other rail. Should that be the case? I thought they were all made to the same sizes?

Are you sure one of them isn't on the wrong way round? One appears flush to the port and the other is overhanging?

I should guess the two parts are not the correct distance apart for the slots to line up, as if you’ve cut a long rail in two and moved them
more than the equivalent distance of the slots apart.

Problem solved.

I have been looking at the aluminium ones from Britannia, mainly for the lighter weight albeit a tiny amount.

I have to swap the mounts I have got as they aren’t tall enough to go on my FX and clear the extended rail I have on there. But I have noticed there is a huge difference in the tension on the levers between the 2 different rails, would that affect my zero if I have to loosen the tension to go back to the Howa?

I’ll assume you’re referring to the levers on the innomount.
Lever tension will tend to alter zero.

that’s very upsetting then!
Why would different manufacturers of the same spec item be different? I thought that was the whole point in the specification!

Different machines, different tooling and quality control. They are manufactured to a +/- tolerance. If I’m swapping mounts/scope, I keep to the same brand. Not 100% foolproof, but close.

I will get the same manufacturer’s rails for the guns that I can but my FX Impact has either their own rail or the Saber Tactical rail so I can’t match brand on that one!

It still doesn’t sit right with me that the dimensions should be so far out.

It looks to me like the rear pic rail is the wrong way round and is overhanging the ejection port. Suggest you set up the scope rings on the FX Impact rail then try the 223 mounts in various orientations.
