Hi

I am new to deer stalking and looking for someone in Lancashire that would let me accompany them on a stalk.
I do not wish to shoot, just come out with an experienced person and see what its all about.
I have my own thermal, bino's and insurance and I can meet up at any point local to you or your stalking ground.
I'm happy to get the bacon butties and brews in!
Please feel free to PM me and I am happy to exchange numbers so we can have a chat.

Thanks

Andy

As a lancashire based shooter it seems an absolute pain in the rear to get any sort of shooting round here. Unless you're sucking the right sausage, it's a hide into nothing.

I’m not even after shooting! I just want to accompany someone on a stalk and see if I think I’ll like it.

A “hide into nothing” ?
I always thought it was “a hiding to nothing”

Good old auto correct unfortunately but you'll find there's 2 types of "beater" over here. 1 that goes round chasing birds for the gentry to shoot and the other that has stalking/foxing permissions but spends alot of their time looking like a glazed doughnut

There are plenty of folks that will take your for a paid stalk in the south lakes. Look at Graythwaite estate, or Jonathan Standing both based a short distance over the county ditch from Lancashire. Culling roe does is cheap sport. The honest truth is most people with hard won ground are reluctant to take out an unknown entity for fear of being backdoored, so maybe join local BDS, attend some events and become a known entity 🤣!

Stalking certainly isn’t getting easier to find as in the last decade a lot of folks have picked it up. Paid days or a syndicate (or both) are the likely starting point. There are plenty of both in classifieds.

One thing is for certain; take Mr Vikings attitude and you won’t get very far.

Cheers for the response. I understand the nervousness of people not wanting to lose their permissions, pretty hard to lose it to someone who has never done it, doesnt have the equipment and isnt even intending to shoot!

I will have a look for a paid day I think as that looks as though its the only option.

As a Lancashire stalker , i would have to say " forget that as an ask " . Better off booking stalks further North or further South and you will also gain knowledge off various folks rather than one . Folks will rarely tell you where they stalk here , let alone take a stranger ! Too many folks will be knocking on your landowners door with rolls of cash

I can vouch for the guys at Graythwaite. I was in a very similar position to you earlier on in the year. Bit the bullet and did the Introduction to Deer Stalking at the estate. Spent the day on the range learning all the basics of a larger calibre and how the rifle handles with a lot of rounds sent down the range. Followed it up with a simulated stalk in the afternoon. Due to the weather been extremely unfavourable (far too hot), I then heading back up onto the estate for an evening Stalk at a later date on Roe Bucks with one of their stalkers. An excellent experience overall and would recommend to anyone who is a novice to the discipline and wanting to try the water before further investing.

If you'd like any more information feel free to drop me a message and I'll gladly discuss more.

Hi Andy,

Another factor that may stop people taking you out and applies to me- I have a nice farm permission and would gladly take you out (not that you’d learn much from me!) but the agreement is for me alone to stalk there. If I go and ask the farmer if I can bring some random bloke off the internet he’s going to think I’m mental and might tell me I should maybe start looking for new ground!

Semi-serious question- thermals and binos are expensive, why would you have them if you don’t already stalk/shoot? People might be getting a serial killer vibe which is putting them off 😂

Hi Dave,

I have a thermal spotter & scope for foxing. My bino's arent expensive ones but will be good enough for a tester day!

And how did you know I'm a serial killer? :)
