Quick-Release Mounts/Rings for Sako 75

What do you recommend and who in the UK supplies them please?

I’m looking for German quality so know I’ll need to crack open the piggy bank.

As an aside, what over good quality fixed mounts/rings other than Optilock are readily available?

You can run Optilocks as QR
Run the rear stop pin into the locator groove, clamp to a set torque

or we supply one piece picatinny rails that you can use standard QR Picatinny rings

I got a one piece Contessa picatinny rail from Alan Rhone for my 75 but I haven't got round to fitting it yet as I need to file the dovetails on the rail to make them fit onto the dovetails on the action. This is apparently usual with rails for 75s as the manufacturing tolerances on the dovetails were fairly variable so the rail has to be made to fit the smallest dovetails on an action, and a larger dovetail will need the rail filing to fit. I also got some Warne 213LM 30mm Matte Low Qd Rings which I'm sure I'll be really pleased with if I can ever get my finger out and fit the rail. Should give me a lower mounting for my scope which has a 50mm objective.

Unlike other options, these are actually hold zero in a repeatable manner.

but you're then not taking advantage of the integrated dovetails, just adding height to the mounting system with weak screws. or do they actually have a dovetail fit base?

I'd throw the sako TRG optilock QD system in there as one of the ugliest, but one of the only one's that uses the dovetails and you can ACTUALLY rely on to return to zero

Sako's tapered dovetails are not fit for purpose anyway.

They were introduced in 1946 with the Sako L46.

They were meant to hold scopes between 1 inch to 26mm, usually fixed power and those wold rarely make 500g.

Yet today there 34mm,35mm,36mm, or even 40mm maintube scopes weighing close to 2kg!

That's before we start talking about brass being ejected into windage turrets/rails and back into the action. Funny how this was not an issue with the earlier L or A series?

If the OP wants the 'OG' Sako QR Thumbscrew rings (way before Beretta's takeover) then I do have a couple of pairs available...

The TRG uses the same dovetail as the Tikka T3 and isn’t tapered.

I have gone with a Near rail from Canada. It is an interference fit picatinny rail and I would go as far as to say it’s the best on the market.

But the S20 is on a long action and limits scope position because it isn’t a full length rail. Therefore you have to buy a Sako mount to fit. Defeats the object of a picatinny rail.

Not really.

Most of the Yanks prefer to run two piece (seperate) picatinny rings so it's a non issue for them.

Look at some of the older Ken Farrell rails which have the same issue:

The specific issue is the long action. The slots are too far apart to allow eye relief positioning.

My near rail isn’t full length picatinny slots. But as it is a short action it’s a non issue.

Comes down to the scope as well.

I'll give you the point that many scopes are now shorter and have less mounting space, due to the 'DMR' trend.

Case in point being S&B Ultra Shorts!

I do this , aside of say 0.25 moa? ( something most will never notice) they work just fine if you leave the rings on and run the scope tight into place in the notch . Both scopes set in medium height mounts

Thanks but I cannot ‘live’ with the clunky Optilock rings. Further, I’ve noted the Optilock rear mount - the one with the stud - has a lot of side slop as you cannot run the forward taper to the point it goes no further within the action groove. To achieve this you’d need to drift out the recoil stud.

As for a installing a rail it’s just not in my DNA!
