My dog usually tells me when we have an unwanted visitor around the farm. When it comes to foxes she anoints her forehead with fox spraint & sits under the table, if that doesn't work she sits next to me and waits for me to stroke her head. At breakfast time that usually works. I spring into action, for soap! Armed with bait & game cam, I went into the paddock & watch her until she starts rolling in something savory. I picked a spot visible from the bedroom window. Two days later, its on it like a bonnet, On the third night Im ready with loaded rifle beside the bed. Half eleven I go to sleep, just nodding off when I get a ping on the camera, grab gun & shoot fox. Total distance covered, 3 feet. Feeling chuffed I get into bed again, & its blanky time again. Just nodding out an hour later & I get another ping, fox is feeding next to camera so take aim, & just about to pull the trigger when the battery on the NV packs up, damn flicking switch on again I take aim & same happens again. It stayed on for about 3 seconds, so third time lucky I switch on, fire, see fox jump up, camera flash goes off all at the same time. This time the NV won't fire up, I wasn't too sure if I hit it or not, & its too bloody cold to get out there in my Jim Jams & dressing gown.
Heres the first pic, note the timescale, the camera is set to take photos no sooner than every 5 mins. If you look very carefully you may see white outline of 3 bedroom windows. I'm sitting in the middle one.

Heres the second one, ever wondered what its like to be at the receiving end at night time, no wonder missed foxes get spooky. Flash goes off at the same time as I fired, the bullet must have been inches from the fox. Unbelievable coincidence. Light to the left of blast is the security light in farm yard, 110 meters.
Up at dawn with dog, found the first fox easily, the second fox was nowhere to be seen, called her over & she found it straight away, nearly 40 yds away in some rape behind the camera. Now can anyone explain to me how a fox can travel all that way with an exit hole that size! Beggars belief.
What a very strange night, technology + old canine help + lazy farmer, & its in the bag, Phew,
