Spartan Javelin wood screw length

The one supplied is too long for the rather slim forend on my CZ 557 Lux. Can I buy 'off-the-shelf' countersunk allen wood-screws to suit?

I struggled to find a ferrous screw that had the correct diameter and had some corrosion resistance. Could you not screw the original to act as a tap for the threads and then shorten it to suit?
