Meloxaid - Legal implications

Hi All, my eldest lab Finn is 11 and has been on meloxaid for arthritis since May 22. He is as fit as fire and has been on the peg this season with no issues, he was weighed last time i picked up a prescription and is bang on 23kg.

I have just had a phonecall from the vets saying they cant issue a new prescription without a full health check (the lass on the phone didnt know whether that was bloods or just a visual health check)..

When i queried it she said its now a legal requirement to check the dog every six months when on meloxaid? Thoughts?

sounds normal to me, even for flea and worm treatment they want to see the dog.
We buy the above online and anyone here that goes elsewhere to buy is mad. The pour ons or oral`s are sold online by reputable companies...lots of them all competing for your dollar. Sarcoptic mange treatments are freely online also. They are a must in rural areas.

not the rules here, vet has to ok the prescription.
i dont agree with the amount of chemicals we put on our pets here. we should only be treating if pests are present.
but thus is taking the original post off on a tangent

We have the same for Epirepress

Yes that guidance for vets came in years ago ,our Vet is fairly good if you have had the dog in for any other reasons in the previous 6 months they don’t bother, other than that they issue the prescription (also for Meloxaid ) as normal for £18 then I buy online usually 4 bottles at a time miles cheaper than getting from vets.
