Hilux early chassis fail: rust perforation after 7 years and just 44k miles of road use in U.K.

Yes, I live in a coastal town in North Devon. But the Hilux has never been near the water and I do not own or launch boats.

I am certain there are Dacias on the roads of North Devon that have not suffered this failure.
And there was little old me thinking that all these knowledgeable well read stalkers would have a man cave and welder..
Bit of Special K cardboard for a patten, decent shear trace the paten out cut it out. grind until clean and weld it up....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Happened to a friends toyota hylux too. Similar story of use age... These things rust from the inside so you often don’t see it till to late

That suggests poor dipping/coating. Not something I had previously heard about in relation to Hilux.

The Navarra early chassis fail loomed large in the news around 2015 and was a contributing factor to my choosing the Mk7 Hilux in 2016.

Toyota Customer Relations department are an absolute joke.
The brake disk backplate on my 2017 Hilux rusted away and fell off after 2 & 1/2 years from new.
One of the front suspension springs failed at the same time.
When I contacted Toyota Customer Relations regarding these issues, they were totally unhelpful.

Yet they cover their arse by constantly recalling the hilux for airbag clock spring fault🙄
Sent them back the recall letter with a wee note saying a recal was pointless as the chassis was falling to bits & currently un-drivable .
Their reply was———— yip, u guessed it, no reply🙄

& we can split the profits🤷‍♂️😉🤣

This thread reminds me why I keep my 25+yr Isuzu on the road...

Also, for those with an un-knackered chassis, look at a product called Lanoguard for chassis treatment. Miles better than Waxoyl or any of the other black gunges.

This is absolutely ridiculous that Toyota won’t help in this situation - I would make sure if that continues after a few mails to put it on every social media platform you can!

Having recently been searching for a pick up I’m am very disappointed to see the constant and known issues with pretty much every variant available….they all seem to be made of sub-standard materials with poor coating/protection.

I have just bought a used Isuzu and it will be on a ramp this evening so I can get a good look around under it - I will say for the quick look I’ve had so far the corrosion for a 7 year old vehicle is not impressive!

I have purchased Dinotrol and Lanogaurd to soak everything if it is ok to hopefully preserve it a little longer but it’s just bull crap that these vehicles are suffering from this sort of problems.

Gixer

Happened to a friends toyota hylux too. Similar story of use age… he ended up getting a second hand replacement chassis and on my advice getting it galvanised prior to fitting. These things rust from the inside so you often don’t see it till to late
Car cancer indeed

I have bought a itchi pussy l200. 07 plate . To replace my 09 ford ranger. Only due to 86000 on the clock of the l200. The ranger 280000 with a better chassis's.
Been looking at lanogaurd this morning for the itchi pussy . I think this is going to be a itch that's needs scratching 🤦

I had to replace the towbar underun bar on my 2011 Hilux, the exhaust was blowing directly onto the cross member and turned it to cheese, check yours.
Had it MOT'ed soon after and have an advisory on chassis corrosion, I had assumed mine was a Friday afternoon job. Looks like it's a design/manufacturing fault.
