Hilux early chassis fail: rust perforation after 7 years and just 44k miles of road use in U.K.

I thought that was more because they could pronounce the brand name o_O

I'll have to have a look more closely at the Izuzuuzu, but I have a few farmer friends who have all moved to new Hilly's from Izziizzuus,..but that could possibly be due to the 'cool/must have factor'
I will say the isuzu’s are not refined - but it’s a pick-up so not really a big requirement, I’d rather have the reliability.

They are known for the noise and rattley motors but it’s not that bad in my opinion.

Are you suggesting that masochism is a good swap for misfortune? ;):)

On the basis that 2016/2017 was just a bad chassis batch, I would have taken another Hilux but the waiting list is 24 months ish.

Of the 4x4 options available, the Isuzu [best value 4x4 of the year 2022 IIRC] looks well specc'd internally. I do not tow, so the 1.9l engine is not likely to be a limitation for me.
I ordered a new Hilux last month and they are quoting November - waiting list apparently down to 9 months now. Yet to happen, but that's the date I'm being given.

Been in a Navara for 5 years now. Don't make them anymore. I drove the Izuzu and Hilux back to back and went between the dealerships in my Navara. The Izuzu was not as good as the Navara, it felt gutless, noisy, rattled and the engine sounded like a sack of spanners. The 2.8 Hilux felt nicer than the Navara, more torque, smoother, better suspension, quieter. Will not have a Ranger as all the stats say reliability is a real issue and the new VW is a Ranger with a bit of dressing up. Hilux is I think the best option.

It will be going straight from the showroom to the Dinitrol man...

Did you not find the Navara bounced between the dealerships? 🤔

Navara is the AT32 version, so pretty well sorted suspension, much better than standard, so no. Plus I have a canopy and draws full of shite in the back so a permanent extra 150kg or so in it. It has been great whether driving 600 miles to Inverness or driving round the farms.

That's not good from Toyota, I'm very surprised, i run a 2 Mitsubishi L200, glad i didn't go for the Hilux now.

We've had 3 on order since early October. They have told us September hopefully.
I couldn't wait that long and had one with 400 miles on to save the wait. Cost more though.

Today I bid farewell to my Hilux of 7 years. I really had hoped it would have been my "forever" vehicle. Sadly not to be as it had an assembly-time achilles heal: defective chassis protection.

Local dealership took keys and V5, and vehicle chassis is now destined for analysis by Toyota Europe [so I am advised]. 1.26x market-value recompense en route my account next week.

I have closed the deal on a replacement 4x4: I will take delivery of an Isuzu V-Cross before month end. I have teed up both LineX bed-liner installation and Dinitrol under-body treatment. This 4x4 will see me out.

There's no getting away from it, driving the Isuzu or the Hilux is a different experience from a Ranger, you know you're driving a pickup/work tool. But then you're also not constantly waiting for it to break.
My new Hilux dropped off for a week's worth of Dinitrol work today.

Yes, I live in a coastal town in North Devon. But the Hilux has never been near the water and I do not own or launch boats.

I am certain there are Dacias on the roads of North Devon that have not suffered this failure.
There’s half an inch of lanoguard smeared all over the underneath of my duster from the factory, I discovered when fitting a tow bar. They are prepared for this…

Where are you getting the dinitrol treatment done?

I don’t think the drive in the ranger was any better than the hilux or Isuzu….ok, it had a bit more poke maybe but handling wise they were about similar…

The Isuzu is certainly a bit more agricultural noise wise but hey, it’s a pick up truck! And I’d rather hear a bit more noise than have it quiet as it’s broken down again like my ranger!

It’s actually amusing when I think back to the issues with the ranger and the responses Arnold shark commercials gave -

Electrical gremlins - “oh, can you park the vehicle with the read downhill as the towing socket fills with water if the rear is facing up hill”

Underbody corrosion- “they are designed to be replaced every 2-3 years which is why they don’t need underbody protection”

Drinking 1ltr coolant every two weeks (this one took 7 visits back) “the egr coolers sometime use a little coolant” 😂😂

Then on the second visit - “here is 5 ltr of Ford coolant” (no explanation what they were going to do about the issue)

4th visit - “we’ve replaced the EGR cooler and gaskets” (one week later still using coolant)

On the final time I got fed up, called Ford assist, said my vehicle wasn’t safe to drive and needed recovered….told them not to bother calling me until they found the fault. “Oh, it seems there was a head gasket leak and 3 of the 5 votes are washed, we’ll need to order a new engine, can you drive this one until it arrives? We hope it’ll be here within the next 4 months”…😂

Last visit for engine replacement - “ oh hello sir, we’ve replaced the engine, you have a full30 days warranty on the new engine”…..me to service assistant - “but the car still has 12 months warranty left”….her “oh, yes but the engine only has a full 30 days as it’s been replaced”….me “but it took you 9 months to find the problem so what if the new one does the same?” Her - “oh, that wouldn’t be covered”

Never again! 🙄

dinitrol treatment

That looks the front runner in terms of performance. But there are clearly other U.K. options.

Anyone have feedback on "Before 'n After"?

I’ve used dinotrol on a few vehicles and it is good, my current pick up will get dinitrol on the main areas and then Lanogaurd annually everywhere…

Possibly better deals on Hiluxs.
