May i ask why pintail Will ?

Pintail are difficult to get to order as there food is nearly always wild and here today gone tomorrow, getting them inland and not on the saltings can also be tough and you will need a guide and a lot of luck regards the perfect wind and tide at the right time for their food

A few of us in the group have shot a lot of other ducks just never managed to get onto the pintail so want to tick it off the list
To be honest you’ll be needing to get out on the mud to get a flight on them, they’re not land lubbers, would suggest you contact your local wildfowling club to see if you can get a day out as paying guests with a guide out on the mud if you've not done it before as a full day with a tide in the middle you can then shoot the up and the down best chance for pinnies

good luck

You will need to go to the foreshore for pintail as said above however 6 - 8 people on the foreshore is not very easy at all!

We've got 30,000 ducks in the Moray Firth and only 200 Pintail. That's nearly like finding the proverbial pin in a haystack. I've seen a couple flying when out on the mud once in 20 years. In fact I've seen a kingfisher in the Beauly Firth more often

Dust shot?

We’re starting to see larger numbers in Somerset.
Think this is due to warmer weather me earlier inland flooding .
I think you’ll struggle with a pintail flight but if your lucky you might get on some .
Don’t know if this really helps but just thought I’d mention

We have quite a few on the Severn estuary (Cardiff side) their beautiful birds but you would be hard pressed on the foreshore to go for a specific breed of duck. Expect to get cold, wet, muddy and smell like crap this is a guarantee and a chance of a shot at a duck is a possibility. Good fun though 👍

Shooting Pintail is not like a fed pond situation where the birds are drawn in for the corn/tatties etc.

The foreshore is the place to get them and they do not turn up in numbers on a foreshore flight as mallard, teal and wigeon will on an inland flight pond.

Beautiful birds and they do not give themselves up easily.

Which is a good thing.

Cheers

Inland when they arrive I tend to see groups of 20+

Usually only get the odd one or two, and not every season, but one day the season before last, I got wind direction and tide just right and got two pairs one morning. Last season it only happened at weekends when chaps with jobs can get out, so I didn't bother.
