Ineos Grenadier reviews

Has anybody bought one, driven one or indeed seen one yet. I have been reading and watching a few reviews and most seem pretty underwhelming.

I followed the development with interest, but the end result seems that it will be a good off road vehicle. But for any everyday working / family vehicle that will spend most of its life on the road it’s uncomfortable, noisy and much better other options. Indeed save yourself a wedge of cash and buy a base version of the new landrover defender.

Most criticism is on the right hand drive version where half the foot well is taken up routing the exhaust system.

I have seen loads. There is at least one car transporter a day drives past my office with a handful on.
Mate works for an Agri dealership and they have a franchise but I have heard nothing in terms of reviews I’m afraid

I saw them at the Dortmund & Salzburg hunting shows, huge amount of marketing hype was going on but they were pilot build so not ready to sell vehicles so not representative. Ref the RHD a compromise of course but they know which HD in the world of NGOs will be ordering the most.

My boss ordered one last year for delivery in February. Then march. Then April. Then may. It's June tomorrow and there's still no word of it......hope it's worth the wait 🤔

If I could afford one I’d have one over the Urban Warrior (sorry new Land Rover Defender). From the reviews I’ve read they are excellent off road, maybe not so good on road. Very well equipped for off road with traditional ladder chassis and full axles, the main gripe appears to be the steering which is not rack and pinion but another arrangement the name of which I can’t recall but has a slight lag in response which leads to over steer until the driver gets used to it.

Recirculating ball is the method used in older vehicles and off roads. Rack & Pinion was mainly used on smaller cars.

Sat in one yesterday. The windscreen seems quite low, like you’re looking out of a WWII pillbox. And where the sun visors are bolted obscures another 3/4” off the top of the windscreen. The lack of vision would annoy me.
I was surprised by how big it was.
The owner assured me that it was correctly registered as a commercial van, even though it’s a four-door station wagon with glass all round. I have no idea how that works.

seen one today in Midlothian, which I’ve seen before these past 3 Weeks or so. Happened across you tube vids on this yday. Harrys’ farm an interesting review. Seems a wide turning circle and almost 4 full rotations of the wheel, lock to lock, plus roller ball steering impacting the drive on road (along with exhaust located in drivers foot well) main gripes and 2.8T weight!. Plus 750kgs max pay load in rear. Personally I like the utilitarian focus, but as a wagon that would need to serve multiple purposes for me- it appears too niche and high £ cost for my next wagon.

I test drove one over a long weekend and really really wanted to like it, as much, if not more than I wanted to dislike the new deafener..

Deafener smashes it out if the park, both off road and on road, a real shame and a missed opportunity.

it’s the car they promised to build for £40k, with a £70k pricetag.

The Delorean of 2020’s..

I guess if you want a no nonsense easy to repair durable off road truck pick up an old 300tdi defender you should get a great one for half the money. If you want a fancy comfy road warrior that goes off road brilliantly with lots of complex electronics get the new defender…. The grenadier sits awkwardly in between that said they will probably stop making them in a couple of years so might be worth have a minter in the garage?

I had a deposit on one and even went for a test drive in one, although not allowed to drive but just sit in the passenger seat whilst the guy drove round a field my wife’s Audi a3 could of got round.
the price as stated was supposed to be £40k then and I could May be forgive the no room for your left foot and hideous instrument cluster in the middle of the dash but they are now £70k pus vat that’s £84k for gods sake, unless you are shooting unicorns ffs who in they’re right mind would pay that.
Even if I kept it for 10 years which was my original thought imagine the running costs and backup as dealer network is rubbish.
liked the idea but the real thing is too expensive and just well Enough thought out as open the back doors and you have no rear lights visible.

I hear that ALL of the dealership/service centres in Australia are on the coast so a trip to get a service done or warranty repair from anywhere approaching the middle of the country might prove a little time consuming ?

I had a look at one last week. Very big and I thought looked more like a G Wagen than a Defender.

I really liked the idea but I would be in no rush to buy one now, especially not at the current price

I've seen a couple on the road. One was clearly very much kitted out as some sort of "expedition vehicle" and was travelling in convoy with several Defenders new and "old" all equally laden with kit and all looking like they'd never been further from the road than Starbucks car park.

I remember when they first floated the concept of an affordable, British-built, off road capable working vehicle. Somewhere along the way they must have got lost!
