Rifle build

Im looking into having a custom rifle built, i have a variation for a 25-06 currently as that was the path i thought i was going to go down and just buy a new rifle. My question is from a 25-06 is there anything else a bit different i could have built ? I want something i can use for longer range target shooting and open hill red stalking.

Thanks

25-06 is limited in the heavier high BC bullets. The new Hornady ELD-M 134gr .25 would you best option. Ensure you pick a barrel with fast enough twist if you do that route.

7PRC is the new kid on the block. Brass options are lacking so far, I have no idea what factory ammunition supply it like.

6.5 PRC seems to be readily available. Choose the 147gr Hornady ELD for target and the 143hr ELD-X or some copper alternatives for deer.

Or

Just go with the 6.5 Creedmoor!

Plenty of brass about and factory ammunition on about every RFD’s shelves. Puts holes in deer. Cheap to feed as it used less powder than the PRC’s and ‘06

Might be a bit boring but when something works it tends to get used.

The 6.5 creedmoor is nearer to the 25-06 and the 7PRC quite the jump.

What kind of target shooting are you intending to do? Do you have other rifles?

Do you handload? As that could make a difference - 7PRC & 25Creedmoor probably aren’t available in (m)any gunshops if you don’t!
I have just recently started handloading, by no means will i say i know what im doing yet but i can do what i need to do safely. A 25 creedmoor has got me thinking.

Just basic target competitions out to 500 or so but with the option of going further, have a 243 and 22250 at present.

500 yards? A simple .308 is perfect. In fact, a .308 and .243 are neck and neck to 700, past 1k the .243 will kick its butt. So many options

It may well be but i want something different 500 yards was just my starting point if i have a rifle that can go out further i will do that come time

I have had a quiet hankering for a 7PRC ever since they were first announced. It very well may, in the fullness of time, be an itch that requires scratching.

I am a massive fan of the 7mm chamberings, to me they are ideal compromise. Hit as hard as a .30cal on animals, whilst having a fantastic selection of high BC bullets to throw downrange if that is your thing.

I have a good friend with a 7LRM on a bighorn action. It sounds like a full swing sledgehammer on 1k steel. I couldn’t believe it!
