Titanic Submersible missing

Weirdly macabre thing to spend your money on but hope they are found safe and well. Doesn’t look to promising though.
 
Perhaps surprisingly, there can be quite strong currents around the wreck of the Titanic. And it takes a very long time to make the descent. Sounds like a very bad situation indeed.

Personally, I think tourist trips to the wreck are in rather poor taste. The site is a mass grave. 1500 people died down there. Nevertheles, I wouldn't wish for five more to join them and I hope there's a happy outcome. But the prospects look ominous.
 
I can only imagine what it must be like in that sub at the moment. I hope they get back safe and sound.

It's probably because the wealth of one of those on the Submersible is probably a few orders of magnitude larger than the combined wealth of those lost on a migrant boat.

I wonder, if in years to come there will be other intrepid explorers paying to see the last ones to attempt it….
I do hope they get recovered in time, but I do find it odd the things wealthy folk choose to spend their money on.
 
Unfortunately I very much doubt there will be any survivors from this, providing them they even find it.

But I am sure they were aware of this risk when they give you all these terms and conditions that we always study very closely and then sign it.
 
Even if they know a rough area, it is a needle in a haystack. The technology does exist though. If they get some UUVs on the go conducting a detailed survey then I think there is a reasonable chance of finding it on the seabed given enough time. Obviously this doesn't help the crew and passengers.

They got 100+ survivors and 80 bodies from the Greece boat….and had the migrants walked east 100 miles they would have been in Egypt, if I and my family are ever in an area with an issue like this I think I’d rather walk than get on an old rickety boat that was overloaded by 500%!

You have to question the motives on why these risks are taken….it’s not always about safety and possibly about where more money can be made or an easier life can be had.

Also worth noting both the coastguard and a merchant vessel offered assistance and the reports are that the passengers and crew refused the assistance (thinking they wouldn’t get their ticket into Europe)

Finding them is probably the easy bit. The site can be pinpointed and they can probably calculate where the sub might have drifted to, if it has lost all power (rather than just communication) and drifted at all. But they only have til Thursday and there are very few vessels in the world that deploy the type of submersible capable of reaching those depths and even fewer subs that could mount a recovery of a vessel larger than a Transit van with five people on board.
Probably the nearest place such an outfit could be found (or sail from) would be Cape Cod which is 900 miles from the wreck site and they've only got two days to get there, find them and make a recovery. And the recovery operation will take over eight hours just to descend to the bottom and get back again.

I'm afraid it will be a miracle if they survive.

Money talks in people trafficking as well. Every one of those illegal migrants will have paid up to £5000 to be duped by traffickers into drowning on their death-trap boats.
