Money wasting again.

I cant fathom this one ...

It's explained in the article:

"The team said growing plants on the Moon could help support missions to the lunar surface.

ANU associate professor Caitlin Byrt said the project also had the broader significance of studying plant adaptation in challenging environments."

It's explained in the article:
DOH!
And that is exactly why I had a rant. What benefit will it be for the world when that sort of money (thats gov money only quoted) could be used to help so many more people.

The mob tell us that they have psychologists on the team...gravy train there lol.

Tripogon loliiformis they quote, look it up its as useful as the proverbial T*** on a bull.

Why would any rational person want to cultivate crops on the moon as a means to fuel exploration when you've made an utter mess of living here on Earth? It's like starting a rebuild project on a car or bike and abandoning it halfway through because it got to difficult and then starting another.

It is ridiculous. I will relish seeing the 'value for money' end results.

Are you saying that humankind should not waste money on space exploration?

Or are you saying that space exploration is fine in general, but growing plants on the moon specifically is a daft idea?

Or are you saying that space exploration and growing plants on the moon are both fine, but let the Americans pay for the whole lot (just as they did with the Apollo moon landings), and keep the money of the Australian people, to be spent in Australia only?

Or something else?

Just trying to understand what is it exactly that people here are objecting to.

Didn't mention exploration, my beef was the Gov grant of $3.5 million for the plant idea when there are far more worthy recipients. Or put it to more research/development on better crops for us now.

Article below today about outer space, really what do we get out of it? There are figures of 100`s of millions of years lol....whoo! We dont have the gear to do much at all.
Also lets say a trip to Mars for 10 months then a return trip of 10 months.. thats if all was good. When you read up on what that amount of time does to the human body you will make a mental note of declining the invitation.
Wtf will it cost in not only money but people and resources? What will we get out of it, we are never going to develop it for human life unless perhaps down the track a few hundred years after the NH.

Get ya head around this Q: " Supermassive black holes are millions, if not billions, times as big as the Sun." EQ Well wtf are they going to be any use for us for?

but growing plants on the moon specifically is a daft idea?
Yes.

Much of this argumentation could have been levelled at Captain Cook and Magellan's journeys at the time....

Fun fact about on how Brits came to settle in Australia:

Gee, who could have foreseen that an explanation of the physics that underlie the workings of the universe would involve some difficulty? :-|

Nah, all this fancy-lad "research" stuff seems like a big waste of time; I mean, what have science and physics ever done for us?
