Opposing digital currency.

Only people taking cash now are dodging tax.
I just had an email from my bank limiting how much cash I can pay in or take out , plus limiting how much I can transfer or pay to someone on a day.
You can only pay £24k into your account in any one year now
I’m actually against that and am still deciding how to act .

Well I recently had a problem with my debit card being cloned or whatever. Fairplay to Barclays, they were on it and I lost no money, but embarrassingly I had no access to my bank account or money for several days.
Cash is king!

I don't submit as easily as you. And I don't think I'm in a minority. I've yet to find a business not accepting cash - except during Covid, and those have gone back to cash. If I find a digital-only business, I will go elsewhere. If they won;t take my money in cash, they won't get any of it.
Just because the wealthy, the powerful, and despotic say something is desirable, almost certainly means it is not; and just because they say it must happen, doesn't mean it has to or that we should accept it.
I'm exactly the same Finch.I ask a business if they accept cash,if not I tell them they should as they've just lost mine.
Of course I use my card when I'm in my home town but I'll always do cash whenever possible & especially when I'm away in the wagon.
When I see businesses saying cash only I always thank the proprietor for doing so & they'll always get my business.
Use it or lose it & that goes for your freedom of choice also.

I have to say that most of my transactions are done with a card. Or even (gasp) my 'phone, which I have learnt to use. But sometimes, I want to use cash. Maybe give some to the grandkids or pay the farmer where I get my eggs or whatever. Can't see why I shouldn't do that. Always have a tenner or twenty in my wallet, even though it doesn't get used for ages.

I understand that the government wants to get rid of actual dosh because they think it'll do away with tax dodgers. But there'll always be a way around that. They are naïve if they think they can eradicate them. Surely our dodgy MPs must know that.

Oh, another thing. I sometimes go to rugby games at Twickenham. It is now a cash free zone. You can't buy anything without flashing plastic. Not a drink, not a rugby shirt, not even a greasy burger from some stand. Nobody takes cash. And these days, of course even the tickets appear on your 'phone, which, if you can get one, will have been paid for online. Not even using a card!

I think you will find cash to be a necessity if attending a car boot sale or boat jumble.

If I can't use cash I won't go there. Plenty of honest people use it in business too. If you think a digital currency only scenario is a good idea have a read about why the Chinese government want the digital yuan. Not the kind of society I want to live in.

The Chinese social credit system. Where every area of life is digitised, monitored and assessed and each individual judged on how good a citizen they are with punishment or reward allotted accordingly. A the criteria for what makes a good citizen being set rigidly and solely by the state, of course. Horrific.
I can see the next Labour government with their addiction to wokism and cancel culture trying to introduce something similar. The warning signs are the closure of people's bank accounts based on their views on politics or gender identity. Climate scepticism will be next. And wait to see what happens to people who refuse vaccines when the next psuedo pandemic comes along.

Not just the law-abiding, who are having to move with the times...

Teenagers jailed following knifepoint robberies across London

Four teenagers who stole £115,000 worth of cryptocurrency in knifepoint robberies have been jailed after Met detectives identified their home addresses from takeaway orders they paid for with stolen bank details.

Between June 2021 and January 2022, the group committed a series of robberies and attempted robberies in different parts of London. They used knives to threaten the victims and force them to hand over their phones and then provide the passcodes needed to unlock the devices.

They would then siphon off the victims’ cryptocurrency into ‘hot wallets’, resulting in more than £115,000 worth of cryptocurrency being stolen. The group also used stored bank information to purchase top-up cards, taxi journeys and complete other fraudulent transactions.

Not just Labour. The Tories and bank leaders too.

I’d still pay by barter but no one ever has change for a chicken
That's exactly why money, came into usage, something that had a store value and could be easily divisible, gold & silver have pretty much the same value all around the world, but of course gold & silver are no longer used in common coinage, it's been replaced the shiny lookalike.
Edit; If we enter a cashless society phase I feel it's just one more small but important loss. Start "stacking" some gold to secure your wealth.

Cash is king!
And immediate.

When Eftpos card computer systems go down as often happens no one can pay for anything. I have seen where 50 shopping trolleys full of goods have been simply left at the check out counters by customers because of " sorry, our system is down and we cant process it"

As an aside I remember several times where major airlines couldn't process customers resulting in huge delays running into the next day, because of computer systems that are down.
Cards are great to have and use as long as everything is absolutely right for the process.

I ordered two pair of heavy fleece pants from Ridgeline a few weeks ago and the "your card is corrupt" came up every time I clicked the buy box. I triple checked the numbers typed into the box and all were ok and was told the same by their site. I rang my bank and the girl said "johnno your card is perfect."
I pharkin knew that anyway lol.
Meanwhile Ridgeline suggested (their IT team ) that it was no fault of theirs and to try another card...I dont have another pharkin card ffs!....hmmm I had used the card 4-5 times since the initial foray without a problem. I tried again to no avail a week later and finally after more complaints a beaut Ridgeline girl sent me a pro forma invoice that I transferred the moolah into....she knocked 20% off the full price and sent me a R/Line fleece beanie as well.....all freight free.
It worked out really well, although two weeks behind my couldhavebeen possible hunting trip OS though.
There`s nothing like the folding stuff to gladden a blokes heart.

Next after cards will come thumbprints and iris scans...mark my words. Governments want control.

Itll only get rid of low level tax dodgers. The rich with their expensive accountants will still dodge it as they always have done. Country is well and truly f**ked the day cash disappears. Every penny spent watched and “they” will decide how you spend your money. Dont like guns, freeze all payments to gun dealers. Dont want you travelling too far, restrict how much you can spend on fuel. None of this is as far fetched as it may sound

Sheep & Sheperd's springs to mind when I start thinking about this... and the shepherd is really a wolf in disguise. Don't be sheep.

Of course going cashless would affect the criminal more think money laundering, drug dealers ect
I think large scale money laundering isn't done with cash, it's also gone electronic, probably the Brinks-mat robbery was a large scale event, but I think that was gold smelted down and sold through a dodgy outlet.
Drug dealers could easily be nipped up with a change in sentencing, it may mean another prison being built, but 40 year sentences with no parole would stop it in its tracks.

A petition here from GB News against a digital currency and a cashless society. Rishi Sunak would have brought it in already if he could get away with it, and you can bet the next government pursue it. Don't let it happen by default.

I don’t really understand the opposition to getting rid of cash.

Can someone explain what the concern is?

I very seldom have cash now, and find it extremely inconvenient if I have to use it. Really dislike businesses that insist on it.
