6.5 for Boar in France and/or Italy?

If i remeber you can only hunt boar on certain days,in ITALY (northern) It maybe weds & sat or something similar, i have no idea why & i havent done the hunt for a while it may have changed. Firearms to posess have to be rifled guns, firing a bullet with a diameter of 5.6mm or more & a case 40mm+, overall bullet length 60 cm + and a barrel length 30 cm +.
Hope this helps
a 2 ft bullet, christ they must be some pigs over there. lol:D

I did some web surfing on this topic an this is what I found:

the Chasser en France website links to the la Chambre Syndicale des Armuriers (www.syndicat-armuriers.com) site which reports on the French gun lobby's progress in changing the law. In a report of the Comité de Guillaume Tell dated 2 February 2012 it appears that an amendment to law is in the making to allow most military calibres to be used for hunting in France. It has been approved by the National Assembly but not yet by the Senate. There was no update that I could see on the amendment's progress through the Senate but with the recent French Presidential elections I suspect that it has not yet been tabled (but that is my uninformed guess).

What I have also found (http://passionlachasse.free.fr/dossier/munitions.pdf), although it is not definitive from a legal perspective, is summary of what calibres are generally allowed for a particular species (i.e. Gibier) and mode of hunting (i.e. Modes des chasse). It also indicates those cailbres that require specific approval (i.e. certain ex military calibres). It is the author's opinion rather than a legal summary.

Hope this helps...

Interestingly I am in Versaille at the moment and popped into the local Decathalon for a browse earlier this afternoon.

They had the following ammo in stock

7mm Rem Mag (Remi 175 grn Core Lokt)

.280 Rem as above spec but 160 grn

7x64 Norma Vulcan

.35 Whelan (Remi Core Lokt)

.444 Marlin

.270 WSM Norma and Geco

8 x57 Norma

9.3x62 Norma

.300 Win Mag Remi 180 grn Core Lokt

I asked the sales assistant if I could purchase without a license and she said no.

I was curious as I have been with my brother in law on the driven boar over there by invite and was wondering if I could buy ammo if I forgot mine. Looks like I could not but my brother in law could.

Anyway just thought I would post my observations as I found it interesting that a shop such as Decathalon had a fairly good selection of factory ammo considering.

jon2 a couple of observations-

The 8x57 would have been 8x57jrs, rimmed version and therefore legal to purchase with a hunting permit where as the rimless round 8mm Mauser is classed as a military round and isn't sold. If you had a hunting permit (permis de chasse) you could have purchased ammunition. I take it that you had the necessary permit when you hunted previously with your brother in law. They always require to see your hunting permit when buying ammunition if I remember correctly there is a system on the till that won't allow the transaction without the staff seeing the permit.

It always seems strange to me that Decathlon have totally different price structures for ammunition in stores located in adjoining towns. Sometimes a bargain can be had with ammunition, but often I thought that prices were generally on the high side. I have to admit to not being able to pass a Decathlon store when in France because some of their hunting clothing is an absolute bargain especially their tee shirts and jumpers.

P.S. You forgot to mention 9.3x74r - always for sale as very popular in France.

Quite right 8x57, it was the rimmed version. I am sure they would have had 9.3x74 too as some of the ammo was obscured from my beady eyes and was locked behind a glass screen.

Yes I had the permis de chasse last time but brought my ammo with me. I was curious in case of a logistics cock up ever occurred and forced to buy from a local in country retailer. Yes I agree, they are geared up in terms of hunting culture and Decathalons lines reflect this.

Interestingly my brother in law used to take me to the Kettner shop where I used to enjoy looking at the doubles and combinations but it closed down a couple of years ago. Perhaps a reflection of the economic state although France doesn't seem to have been affected by any down turn at the moment. Money is freely available here still for house purchases etc.

A shame that we don't have real sports shops like Decathlon in this country these days. And before anyone mentions it I know that there are Decathlon stores in the U.K. but they only sell the same old tat as all the other so called "sports shops" like copies of soccer shirts for all the sad gits. :cuckoo:

Kettner may have gone but I notice that Franconia seems to be spreading to France with a couple of outlets or franchises dotted around the country now.

If you want to buy ammo in Decathlon all you have to do is show your Euro firearms pass to the person who is in charge of ammo cabinet keys and then fill with your boots with what ever ammo you want!! then just take it to the till with the rest of your shoping. Thats what i do when i go over to France it works at the Decathlon in Arras and in Boulounge.

Bob.

Jon, I have bought bucket loads of ammo in the Decathlon in Lille with my Europass.

As you say, loads of 280 rem, 7x64 & 300 winmag. Lesser selections of 270 and the other non-mil calibres.
