Spartan Prohunt Tac

Horses for courses, like DTE said. I was talking about Spartan bipod, not the whole ecosystem. Personally I don't see much point in sucker mount (£150) or quad sticks that use Spartan attachment (£300).

If the pistol grip in Blaser sticks is rotating and provides panning, that's kind of clever. Might have to make something similar for my sticks. Already have adapter for tripod that utilises the same principle.

If it’s just for the bonnet, then these are great

Didn't pay anywhere near those figures - the sucker mount was actually off here and I had the sticks already

Yes, the drawback to the Blaser sticks is actually its strength - that hand grip. But in using it, you are not holding the rifle fore end so to counter that, whilst reducing the Blaser spigot size to fit the Spartan mount, I also bored it out to take a neodymium magnet (F**ing strong) so the rifle doesn't jump on firing. Works well for me (.243, .270 and .308). :thumb:

As a one off bipod it is expensive but the whole point of it is the system and the fact it's not excess bulk attached to your rifle all the time.

Adapters on each rifle and one bipod, use the tripod to glass with your spotting scope and then attach your rifle for the shot if needed, take the legs off the tripod and use them as trekking poles to get back while carrying the meat you've shot. Use the screw on clamps on a highseat rail, or the attachments to shoot from a truck.

If you're not interested in the system or having a bipod that can be attached in a split second when needed then clearly it's not for you.

I think I’ve had three different Spartans and the pro hunt tac in long is the best. Fantastic peice of kit sits in its holster on my bino pouch but always there if I need it. The pro hunt tac is way better than the standard one and long legs are a must.

Also fit a gunsmith adapter it keeps life simple

I'm not interested in suction mount that has multiple adjustments, even if I was shooting in quite fast manner from the bonnet (we cannot shoot using car, behind car or closer than 100m from car after stopping). If you have something in that size, a front bag with light fill would get my vote. The spartan bipod might work, if you can get it low enough and adjust the height fast enough (for proper support under buttstock). This is assuming you can have it in your pocket, and attach intuitively after exiting the car.

Neither am I interested in quad sticks, where you attach the rifle to the sticks (for recoil and POI management, as referred to by wytonpjs). I see Blaser sticks might come with Y yoke for front attachment point, but it's kind of besides the point (of attaching your rifle to every support you use).

A system where you can attach different "devices" to different supports using universal interface, does interest me. I just don't find the Spartan system to be universal, e.g. when you're using bipod and really try to hit something it's just not the tool nor the interface for the job. I'm sure Spartan system has it uses, and I'd tempted to try it but the system just isn't able to accomodate e.g. bipod styles I want. Adapters seem to be available, although pricey. And any female adapter that sticks out of the rifle just screams "I don't belong here" (just like with QD cups that protrude).

Look up ARCA Swiss, it's a sorta big deal on which Spartan have completely missed the boat on with their insistence to have a proprietary attachment system.

ARCA also has the advantage of being quick to reposition, the ability to adjust the balance of your supported position on the fly is not something the Spartan magnetic system offers.

Their tripods and bipods are not of the same standards to which competition shooters use, and the weight penalty of other systems is not that much of a sacrifice considering the cost (vis à vis quality) of Spartan offerings.

Also, Spartan have turned their back on the UK market that helped bring them up in the first place, calling the UK market 'just airgun shooters' on the MeatEater podcast was not a good idea...

Spartan do make Arca adapters.

The guy behind Spartan is a mountaineer and hunter and their kit is marketed at Hunters who prioritise weight and adaptability, hence the push into the US market (and the sheer scale of sales compared to the UK). For the average UK stalker who is about 20kg overweight, probably pushing retirement and only ambles 100m to a highseat clearly they're not in any need for a lightweigh carbon fibre bipod.

What isn't advertised is their kit is sold and developed with various special forces around the world who are also keen on weight savings for obvious reasons.

The UK domestic market for the average UK stalker doesn't factor very highly on their global sales priority. Likewise neither does PRS where you're shooting a 12kg plus rifle so again a super light tripod and bipod set up isn't relevant. They're selling light weight kit to people trekking up mountains where carrying a spare pair of pants is a luxury.

I have the pro hunt tac and gen 1 mountain sentinel tripod.

As a mountain hunter in NZ the whole system package is why I bought in, having one universal connection point for binos, spotting scope and rifle has been a game changer not mention how light they are.

I have used the previous gen bipods from Spartan but they never quite worked for me in terms of quick setup until this one. It’s the best of both worlds with notched legs and no twist locks. I have the short version as anything longer I just use the tripod.

As far as cost goes just remember that the more rifles you can use it on the cheaper it effectively becomes…

I beg to differ - see my post #9 above. I have one of these sat in the car and it facilitates a quick, precise off-the-bonnet shot when required:

The rubber base does not need vacuuming down in use, it's very stable and non-marking to the paintwork.

In short:
  • At the range or downhill prone - use TAC bipod (TAC in range bag, long regular carried on bino harness)
  • Sticks (98% of all my stalking) - off my Blaser sticks with modified spigot
  • Off-the bonnet - the Spartan Sucker Mount
All with only the Spartan Universal Adapter fitted to the rifle :)

Ooops

I forgot the final bit of my EcoSystem - the Quad!
  • At the range or downhill prone - use TAC bipod (TAC in range bag, long regular carried on bino harness)
  • Sticks (98% of all my stalking) - off my Blaser sticks with modified spigot
  • Off-the bonnet - the Spartan Sucker Mount
  • Off the Quad - Homemade Spartan adapter fitted to a Smart Rest Off-Road
Works very well........in for a penny, in for a pound:tiphat:

Hi guys, I am after some advice regarding the Spartan Pro Hunt Tac Bipods.

Those with first person experience, do you rate them? Are they worth the money? What size would you suggest (I know this one is a bit subjective and specific)? Which colour did you go for and why? i
If anyone has any pictures with it on the rifle could they please share!

Thanks guys!
Here’s a picture as per request IMG_3780.webp
