More on death caps.

I shudder.
Its still up for debate whether the recent deaths were planned or accidental. But the bloke below had 11 days at deaths door after a feed.

Extremely lucky to survive amanita poisoning. Most don't. Reckon his nine lives have all been used up in one go. Live and learn and be thankful.

It's a cruel thing as, I;m told, you actually "get better" after a while but then in fact die.
Correct. You have about two weeks of the most horrendous poisoning symptoms and then they subside, things seem to calm down and you're just exhausted. But as John says, your liver has been destroyed and after a couple of days it starts again with a vengeance and you're dead within hours.

The only cure is to have your blood "washed" - a kind of extreme dialysis. But it needs to be done promptly after ingestion before the toxins start to attack your organs. By the time you get symptoms you're likely to be beyond help. And as most people eat them in error they don't know they've eaten a wrong un until it's too late.

The 4th bloke is waiting for a liver transplant, he is seriously crook.

The ‘morel‘ of the story - all mushrooms are edible, though some only the once - stick to what you know, if in doubt, don’t.
The chanterelles and ceps still take some beating, better than parasols but only just - why not just play it a bit safer or at least until you are certain of what you have?

Absolutely. If you're not 100% certain of ID, do not eat it. It's not worth being adventurous. You may not get the chance to learn from your mistakes with fungi. And there's plenty of very good eating to be had from easily identified species.

Yep, dont go licking the wrong frogs too ha ha.

Surely the moral of this sad tale is.....if the cook and her daughters aren't going to eat the "mushrooms", why should you?
A little suspicious, or am I just a tad cynical?!

Buying mushrooms from Tesco seems good to me.

I bought a bag of washed spinach from a well known supermarket (I won't mention the name on here but it wasn't Tesco) and when I opened it I found strands of bindweed mixed in with it. Bindweed is poisonous. It isn't going to kill you but you don't want it in your salad.

I notified customer services of the supermarket concerned and told them which branch I'd bought it from.
They replied thanking me for my concern and promised to send me a loyalty card with a free credit on it that could be redeemed by a code which they would email me. The credit turned out to be a £5 and the card never arrived.

Amanita muscaria sounds a odd shroom eaten by the shamans and followers drank his urine as more potent though think it had to be prepared correctly or very not good, read the Vikings quite enjoyed it 🤷🏽‍♂️

I had these for dinner tonight, and am glad they can’t be confused with any of the amanitas (or shaggy parasols, which are easy to differentiate) 3A057EC5-FE09-444C-A0AF-9E4A9FD60ABC.webp

Hmmmmmm........The Herald Sun reports Simon allegedly told friends he felt ill several times after eating with his former wife. This will be a matter of furious interest to detectives. Indigestion or intelligence? Watch this space.
