I know a retired professional hunter in Africa who has killed 3 Cape buffalo with his Win 94 in 30-30 Win. Used 170 grain Winchester ammo and placed the shot properly. Says he would have no hesitation doing it again.

Not sure why you would hesitate to use a 30-30 to shoot a boar but then have a knife made up to dispatch a boar.

If a boar is that dangerous then you dont want to be near it with a knife when its wounded.

Just reload and pop it again.

Once on one of basswoods driven boar shoots in Croatia . the hunter fired 4-5 shots at a wild boar coming straight for him and ended up poking it in the eye with the barrel !!
Even if your rifle will do the job the nut behind the trigger still has to place the bullet in the right spot

Did they miss with 4 or 5 shots?

If you aren't capable of hitting it when your hands are already on the rifle and its right infront of you then having to faff, get a knife from the shealth and then actually use it, it isn't going to happen.

Split the difference and get a Win 1887 or Chiappa 1887 shotgun.

A slicked up pump shotgun would be my choice. Something that shot where I was looking with minimal sight acquisitioning.

Even a semi or FAC semi with a full tube of heavy loads.

If someone misses with those then they aren't really cut out for life.

I did have a link to a bunch of certifiable loonies that hunt large wild boar by hand, jumping on them and wrestling them to the ground before killing them with knife. Unfortunately the link no longer works but it really was something to see!

i think the biggest bear killed in Alaska was shot with a 22 lr and Bell shot perhaps the biggest total bag of Elephant with 6.5 and 7mm . End of the day there are good reasons that those feats are still being spoken of and not being repeated .

Google Bella Twin , Alberta Record Grizzly . She shot it with a 22 RF , it may have been shorts , it was definitely a Cooey single shot rifle , I've seen it and it has seen better days lol . I know the family quite well and used to hunt with her Grandson Dave .
