As above folks

Any good LR mechanics around this area? My 23yr old SWB Defender TD5 engine management warning light has just come on and staying on and no throttle available at all, starts up first time and ticks over no problem.

I had to drive through some deep water last week with no sign of a problem after doing so and running well, got back parked it up and not used for a couple of days went out this morning to the above problem.

Pm please if you can assist.

Thanks in advance

There is a guy in Laurencekirk that is ex main dealer and really knows his stuff. I was referred to him by another dealer for some issue I had with a Disco. A bit further up the road but if he is still there then its worth a look

Mann Automotive I think? It was a few years back but worth checking

Get yourself onto www.defender2.net there’s a lot of wisdom on there that’ll help you get an idea of what’s up & very likely point you in the direction of someone local who can sort it 👍
Somebody on there will sort you in no time. From my TD5 days I seem to remember resetting the throttle sensor by switching the ignition on an off and pressing the accelerator a number of times.
.

IIRC, ignition on then press the pedal to the floor 5 times then switch off the ignition.
If it’s damp but will run sometimes just driving will warm up the ecu’s enough to clear them. They may need removed and dried if very damp though.
Good luck.

That would be Barry…..and yes, it’s Mann Automotive.

I'd check under the drivers seat and see if there's any water in the seat box that could of wet the ECU and fuses. If it has and you can dry it all out you may be able to get it driving and get it to the garage. If water hasn't flooded the footwells I'd be surprised if its the throttle position sensor unless it's just happened to fail by coincidence.

Thanks very much for all the advice and help up to now folks, I'm going to try out some of the suggestions tomorrow - Just in time for the next flood!

Anyone local willing to take a look?

I've spent a bit of time looking to see if there is something obvious causing the problem but not been successful.

I can't drive it to a garage (no throttle response - 8mls away) it needs to get uplifted, was hoping for someone local/mobile with LR experience/compatible diagnostic machine to come (or I'm happy to pick up) and have a look, I'm happy to pay for the time/service.

Pm if you can assist and I'll forward my contact details

Thanks again

Just done a quick search on Defender2.net & the following suggests either the throttle potentiometer or damaged cable...

If you have a friend, neighbour, acquaintance with a similar age Td5 anywhere close by to you it'd be worth you seeing if you can try a known working throttle pedal from their vehicle to see if that cures it?

If you drop me a PM with your postcode I'd be happy to pop a post up on defender2.net to see if there's anyone local to you who has a Nanocom or maybe a spare throttle pedal.

Hi DB

Many thanks for your help, unfortunately because we are new to this area I don't know anyone with a TD5 Defender

Trying to avoid the cost of having it uplifted/transported to the garage.

Pm sent

Best regards
