The long journey home...

If you are still reading this drivel, well done for sticking with it - more than I would have done.

Anyhoo.

It was time to pack up the car and point it (metaphorically) South, after our week on Harris & Lewis

You may recall my 'faux pas' in booking the 'inbound' overnight on Skye - well I had double checked it this time, and we were in for the journey home.

If you are ever on Skye and you have a wife to try and keep - then the Skeabost House Hotel is worth a look.

It is not cheap, and it seemed to be full of very loud Americans and 'high maintenance' guests from Asia.

One young American (booking in just in front of us) did not want 'old furniture' in his room and so took the 'modern' option of the 'dog friendly' 'garden rooms".

The Receptionist John - (remember him from our journey up?) - well he remembered me.

"Hello again S62. Got the year right this time? Do you want a free upgrade to the best room in the hotel? That young American gentlemen did not want it!"

"Hello again John. Yes. Yes I do want a free upgrade to the best room in the house!"

A massive bed, twin sinks, a bidet (tried it - did not end well) and massive shower - all with views over the Loch and the 'dog friendly' garden rooms now occupied by my new best American friend.

My wife dressed for dinner (a rare thing) and we enjoyed one of the best meals of our lives.

Even if you do not stay in the Hotel, I would not hesitate to book a meal there - it was a real treat.

A quick drink before eating...

With the timings of the ferry from Harris, it makes sense to overnight on Skye.

The weather was kinder to us on the way home, and via another overnight in Cumbria, we finally pitched up two days later.

It had been a long old journey, and I was not the only one who was exhausted and glad to be back home...

Funny thing.

Already missing the Highland & Islands.

Until next time...

Nice trip indeed and thanks for the derring-do reports on a beautiful part of the world.
I take it that despite your heroic efforts there is still a little space left in the old Game Book then and of course Mrs S1962 will never refer to your modest successes - ever?

Very nice.
Is that a snail gorging on the fruit salad? 😘
Ken.

Have very much enjoyed reading your write ups!

My missus and I have been nagged at every year to try and visit Amhuinsuidhe as the Ghillie we fish with on our Spring adventures on the Tay used to be the head ghillie up there.

Glad to know there's things other than shooting and fishing, as I don't see the missus ever agreeing to basically let me go gallivanting by myself a whole holiday 🤣

Enjoyed the read. I had a couple of friend who were up there for a while They also said the terrain was brutal but enjoyed it
