Nominations for BASC Council elections are now open

"The 2021 BASC AGM was online with less than 30 members involved in online voting. The 2022 and 2023 BASC AGMs were face to face at BASC HQ and a bit busier but not by much."
But that was probably 30 members who would not or could not attend in person?,
Why not then run it both ways, simple enough?.
"Forty percent of European AGMs virtual so far in 2021"

Most people attending the AGM in person or online are attending because they have a specific reason - Council members, potential Council members awaiting election results, people getting awards, those involved in running the AGM that are members, and those submitting motions for debate. I think at least one AGM since 2020 was hybrid and I will check what next year's one will be. I guess if you feel strongly enough about it you could attend the next AGM and raise it as a motion? I think you will rarely get more than 0.1% people attending AGMs whether online or face to face or hybrid . If 0.1% of BASC members attended the AGM that would be around 150 people. Just over 1,000 people elected the two latest Council elections - less than 1% of the membership Have a look at AGM minutes since 2010 here, which includes numbers voting in Council elections also: BASC AGM - BASC

As I outlined earlier, these engagement levels are not unique to BASC, and for day to day online engagement on policy campaigns engagement is between 1% to 5% of those receiving emails with calls to action, acting on those calls to action. Engagement on policy issues from active members on SD probably also sits within the 1% to 5% band. Maybe not? I suppose one could run a poll to find out!

Think I raised it @ Stirling 14 years ago.

Thanks, I had a glance of that 2010 thread you shared from just after 2010 BASC AGM. There was concern about apathy in terms of number of votes to get elected on - then 1,800 from 127,000 members. There was a suggestion that introducing online voting would help engage more people. Also, discussion about online engagement for the AGM itself.

BASC introduced online voting some years after that, and during Covid started online AGMs.

That has not seen increased engagement as outlined earlier- and looking at that 2010 thread if anything engagement is much less than in 2010 and that is just the way it is across society.

Does that cover everything? If not do let me know.
