PM'd offer to buy at requested price
Hi Alex. Thanks for the offer. But unsure how this could work. I was hoping for someone closer to come and collect. Never sold a rifle before and only know that I must see your fac.

The hand over has to be in person, or an RFD has to do the collection. Edinburgh Rifles have a great collection service which works for all of the UK.
Normally I would send the funds, then we arrange a time to collect and I come with my FAC. You add the rifle to it (checking it has a slot: I have a Weirauch .17 HMR which I will pass to sell), and we each email our respective police forces with the details of the transaction.
If using Ed's service, they handle the FAC stuff for me and give you the stuff you need too.
The Weirauch is superb, but when in my local toy shop they had a nice Anschutz though at a price of more pennies than I had in my piggy bank, so have been keeping an eye out for a bargain one since then.

More on the PM thread. Don't post acct details on a public thread otherwise someone might sign you up for a direct debit you did not know about.

With kind regards

Alex

Hi Lloyd. It's a single trigger. Five shots magazine. It's got a moderator fitted. I will attempt to send some photos.but outside of my comfort zone 🫣 I think it's the right rifle 🤞PXL_20231212_094710758.webp

Thanks Alex. I'll try and get my head around that.

Are you suggesting you can “pass to sell” your Weihrauch and just add this rifle to your FAC? (That’s how it reads).

I hope you are aware you would have to transfer your current rifle to an RFD or sell it, then apply for a variation to get a new slot to acquire a new rifle, then with both rifles being the same calibre.

Sorry if you already knew that but I sold a rifle recently and the Police force had stamped “you MUST apply for a variation if getting a new rifle; even if replacing like for like” on the inside page of his FAC, so clearly some people have been selling and buying the same calibre guns without variations.

You are right, the wording I used may be ambiguous to someone not familiar with the process.

The process is I can pay for a new rifle but then I have to sell the Weihrauch to the local dealer, or find a buyer on here or elsewhere quickly, before I pick up the new rifle. In doing that sale of the existing rifle the local police are informed by both the dealer and I, and I get the empty slot back for any 0.17: they process the like for like for that almost instantly here as long as one is prepared to drive over to their HQ in Fife - great service. The FAOs like a max 7 day window between selling one rifle and getting the replacement, so all offers to buy should have time limits on them so one does not end up with no rifle and no slot - in fact, they like it to be simultaneous, creating a chain akin to selling a house. If one takes more than 7 days to both buy and sell, it could switch from a simple "like for like" variation to a painful L&B (Lose one slot and Beg for another). Hence transfer the old weapon to an RFD for sale (what I meant by "pass for sale"), if you are close to that limit.

I had a conversation with a local firearms officer on what is a transfer, and the answer is they regard it as the physical transfer. In the past I would pay a deposit, then after the FAC variation, pay the rest, then organise pick up. However, technically the sale is not complete until one both pays for the rifle and arrives with a FAC with a free slot, and the seller has put his details onto the FAC, to complete the sale transaction and enable one to take physical possession of the new rifle. This means one can pay the seller the whole lot immediately then sort out the papers.

Using the Edinburgh Rifle service, the transfer is technically from the seller to them as an RFD and then from the RFD to me at a later date with me present in their Aladdin's Cave. For the seller, that is great because they get paid immediately and can get it off their ticket straight away so they can get something else. Great for the buyer, because one does not need to send a FAC anywhere, and couriers are cheaper than driving. It also makes handling that 7 day time window between selling and buying easier.

Edit: The seller, who sounds a lovely gentleman over the phone, just accepted my offer, so now need to sell on my much loved Weirauch 0.17 HMR HW60J, with scope and moderator. Offering it for the same £300, though cheapest on Guntrader is £450. Will do photos and post on another thread here.
