Three months travelling and still not got to Australia

It occurred to me that three months meandering over the world trying to get to Australia from the UK just might be using up more fossil fuel per person than a 24hour flight (or however long it takes these days). But nonetheless it'd be a good adventure I suppose.

If they are in it for the experience is fine but I don't think they have saved any fossil fuel unless they walked.

Taking 12 months out of be a contributing member to society and still drawing on resources proves Greenies can't see the forest for the trees.

They will probably bitch and moan when they don't make the due date because of so many delays in this period. Her sisters child won't return to school till the end of January so who knows what's next.

The article states they have saved up for several years to pay for this trip so they have done sufficient contributions to society. Rather than paying a single air fare to a giant corporation they have spent more money spread across many different (no doubt local and independent) companies across the globe that otherwise wouldn't have had that business, so I'd say they've contributed more in this trip than had they carried on working and just flown there.

We all save for things. Several years of savings doesn't go far for many. Most can only save a small part of their annual income.
I don't fly often but I wouldn't not fly to say it is a conscious decision because of it effect on the environment as the family did.
If I fly it's to use the most efficient form of travel to achieve the end result.

I have always suffered with travel sickness, so I will never get in an aeroplane. Perhaps this family are the same.
