Zeiss DTC thoughts? DTC 4/50?

Hi all,

Has anyone got their hands on Zeiss' latest DTC 4/50 add on thermal? Any reviews on it?

I've never thought much of front add ons but am starting to think it might be the right choice for me.

Just how repeatable is the mounting system? And just how robust is it? Can it take real world use?

Anyone with the DTC 3 models I'd like to also hear you're opinions as it looks like they use the same mounting system?

Thanks in advance

If it’s as bad as the Pulsar Krypton I had I’d not bother. Didn’t hold zero, rubbish view when zoomed in at 6x and a flaky mounting system. Perhaps the Zeiss one is better but personally I couldn’t recommend anything front add on wise.

I have a DTC 3. It is set up to work on both my 308 and my 22lr. I am able to switch it between rifles and it retains zero. you do have to change the ballistic profile in the unit because of the change in calibre.

As the objective lens is different sizes on the two scopes I have a mount on each one and I leave that in place at all times. I suspect that if you removed the mount then it would not return to zero as easy.

A real world comment is that there is a lever on the scope mount that will release if it gets caught on clothing. ask me how I know after hunting around on a hill for 20mins looking for it, luckily I hadn't walked far before I noticed it had gone. It is now taped shut to prevent it happening again.

another real world observation is that the battery life is brilliant.

Do you use it regularly? Do you mind me asking what scopes you use it on? What mag range can it be used with and do you need parallax adjustment? Thanks

Yes I use it regularly for foxing & rabbits. Zeiss V8 2.8-20x56 and a Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50. The V8 has parallax adjustment but I don't use it and the duralyt has no parallax adjustment.

Jim Rielly has one that is off and on the rifle regularly . Seems to be a fantastic add on . Just like the spotters .

I have a DTC 3/38. As per Artschool I have one mount on each rifle I use it on, and leave the mount permanently on the scope. Once zeroed thru the app for each caliber it goes from rifle to rifle without losing zero.
The app is really easy to use.
Completely agree with the scope mount catch, its complete crap. Ive replaced with a bolt and nyloc nut.
My scopes are Zeiss 56mm so the mount fits flawlessly. I used it briefly on a 52mm objective and sourced some ultra thin plastic strips to build objective diameter up. Too much faff.

I have got a DTC 4-50 brand new I’d sell if any interest in it? Would also come with DTC-A62 mount and DTC-R M52 adapter ring, the 2 things Zeiss don’t make very clear are supplied at extra cost but are essential to even use the thermal add on.

Just gone onto the classifieds for £2650.

it’s always just worked for me. not sure what to suggest

Probably something simple that I’m missing it’s just a bit frustrating, have no problem with the connection of the pulsar monocular when connecting it to the phone

Contact Zeiss and send it back! I had 2 different 3/38 units and 2 different 4/50 ones. All but the last 4/50 had firmware faults and were warranty replaced. I didn’t bother to open the last 4/50 to find out if that was faulty but hopefully it wasn’t..
