Hilux 3l d4d 07 plate engine rattle when cold ? Are land rovers or Nissan Navarra better?

My question, given that the D4D Toyota motor is loud when cold - very- and has been ( for me) on 3 other d4d vehicles I’ve owned , why is it that anyone would buy another vehicle if they don’t care about other stuff ( fancy things) and just need durability and off road work and towing or long distance weight carrying performance?

But, I’ve had new ones in the past and ( long boring story) wound up with the 07 plate I currently have. I got it and decided to run it until it was completely finished. I’ve had it for 6 years now, done 120000 miles since I got it at 88k and have only done servicing and a couple of sets of tyres. Lots ( daily) of off road work and it nearly always has a 3.5 T ifore Trailer with 1.2 k of plant on it …. Why would you choose a different work vehicle? What’s better?

Check to see if your injector seals are the original copper ones or the upgraded aluminium ones. Toyota replaced the copper ones because they were too soft in a unofficial recall but only if you had dealer servicing during the warranty period.
 
If it has been that reliable over the mileage you have done and just requires servicing and tyres, then I would just turn the radio up!! I don't think you would get a better work truck and anything newer is more likely to have more electronics with it.
 
This is why I have a commercial (van back) 52 plate td5 defender. Currently on 280,000 odd miles, on engine number 2 (done by the previous owners), new uprated gearbox arriving next week and an extreme spec clutch and it'll be getting that fitted ASAP. I can't find anything else as a work vehicle and daily driver that even comes close which is why I haven't swapped it in for a Dmax or a hilux. Need a new panel? Just unbolt and replace it. Rusty and made of steel? You'll very likely find a stainless steel or galvanised better made replacement which is pretty much unheard of with any other brand of car. The list of things that make them so modular and adaptable goes on and on.
 
I got the injectors checked when I bought it because it sounded rough. Was told all was ok so I’ve just driven it very hard since with no problems, it still sounds really rough . I’ve just accepted it, friends who own new VW ‘pick ups ‘ think I’m running an old truck that won’t last. It probably won’t last much longer compared to their 2 to 3 year old computers.
Last year I was driving uphill on a motorway for a good 30 mins, 50 mph at 3000 rpm + , trailer with a good 2000kg on it , it’s still going.
I’m due an ‘upgrade’ but while it still works I’m not changing anything. Problem is, I love it and can’t see the point in changing it. I’m half inclined to spend a few k £ on it when it needs some work. At least it’s genuine eh …

Nice. I respect your reasoning. I nearly went down that route but chose the invincible 3l Hilux with leather seats as it was a 3l invincible Hilux with leather seats … I can do a 12 hr drive and still walk afterwards.
That said, if I didn’t do some lengthy journeys, just a few hundred miles a month of local stuff I’d do the same as you.

Worth a look for one of those rare 16 plate mint, low mileage Invincible 3 ltr. I love my 2.8, but it really doesn't feel as solid as the 3.0 I had for nine years before it.

It was just time. I wanted a truck to do me potentially 10-12 years, and I wanted one I could get properly undersealed from brand new. I've no doubt the one I parted company with would still be going strong for years to come though, she'd only done 118k and never let me down once.
