Travel With Blaser R8 and 2 Scoped Barrels in Pelican 1700 Case

What's the process of leaving / Re-entering the UK with your rifles ? I am looking at taking my rifle abroad with me in April, I know what the process is when I arrive on the other side and have that sorted, but wasn't sure if there is anything that needs to be done from the UK side as I am leaving? Filling out any forms or declaring anything etc.
When you leave with rifles
Inform your airline you are carrying firearms and check they allow that, most do and they often charge for it
Allow 3-4 hours prior to flight time, the airline will do paperwork with you and produce the tags for your standard luggage plus rifle
Ammo and rifle need to be in two separate lockable cases, do not put ammo in rifle case
After the airline check in you will go to border force this may take a while at Heathrow often 30-60 minutes
Border Force check serial numbers ,are sure you have your original FAC with you, ensure your serial number matches that on FAC!!!
When BF finish your rifle and ammo will be taken away and you go back to being regular customer

On Return
Go through customs/ passport control
Go and retrieve your regular baggage
Then you need to findBorder force desk it normally next to the Something To Declare red lane ( Is at Heathrow)
Inform them you are picking up rifle and ammo, can be again 30-60 minutes
They go back through all serial numbers and your FAC then give you rifle back

Once you have done first trip it gets easier, have a good trip

You can purchase additional foam inserts for the cases so you can have different set ups and layouts.
Yes - I know - and having nicely cut foam is a thing of beauty! I made hard cardboard stencils of each individual part, worked out my layout and spacing, considered whether to have barrels at top of case (when closed) or bottom and marked the foam with a Sharpie on the backside (so no overworking visible). I then used an electric wire foam cutter - Proxxon Foam Cutter. Worked out really well.

After my first trip to Spain, I realised having a soft gun case when I was actually heading out hunting is really useful. Using the AIM bag as the packing foam with the Peli case also serves as a good space saving option when travelling. Each to their own.
