Well , actually no , the rifle never went wrong and all I did was oil the bolt occasionally . I have a theory that pushing a cleaning rod down the bore does more harm than good and so it has never had the bore cleaned and is still accurate. I have shot plains game in Africa with it and Dall Sheep and black bear in Canada . Also chamois in Austria .

Thanks . When I first started red stag stalking in Scotland it was at Glen Affric and we had to do 30 minutes in a boat before we started stalking . Then catch the ponies , then climb 2000 feet. My job was to carry the guest's rifle and drag the dead stags to where the pony could be loaded

Welcome to the site. Wow, goes to show what a classic round in a classic rifle can do. Is the gun scoped or do you shoot open sights? Have you used the same ammo/bullet weight since you bough the gun? How many rounds do you reckon you've put through it? Just curious....:)

Yes it has a Habicht scope . 6x42. Habicht belongs to Swarovski . I always use Norma ammo . Can't remember the bullet weight and am not currentley where I can look at a box .
I must have put 500 rounds through it . Never had a bi pod and never a sound moderator .

Thanks for indulging my curiosity.

Ah , that's a coincidence ! Yes 7x57 is a great round . Groups well and easy on the shoulder. My longest shot with it was about 400 yards at my Dall sheep in the Yukon . We were at around 9,000 feet and it was a down hill shot across a bare , rocky canyon . I didn't know how to aim , but the guide said " aim as if it was a 200yd shot in Scotland as the air here is thinner and being downhill gravity has less effect " . So I did as he suggested and shot the sheep with the first shot through the heart . It walked about 4 paces and fell over dead .

I see you are a Mckenzie. I was in the Seaforth Highlanders Territorial Army many years ago and we had Mackenzie tartan kilts .
