Mountain scopes

Hi all

Getting a mountain setup together and I’m considering options for a rifle scope.

I’m considering
- Leica Fortis 6 2.5-15x56 (exit pupil diameter not ideal)
- Leica Amplus 6 3-18x44 (has anyone got experience with these? Are they good enough quality? This is Leica’s entry level offering)
- Swaro Z6i 2.5-15x44 BT
- Swaro Z6i 3-18x50 BT (if I can find it)
- Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50

Grateful for ideas!

I've got the 3-18x44 Leica and it is a very good scope. I waited until they offered it with the L-4w reticle as it now makes the scope a truly usable mid-longer range rifle scope. Yes it is SFP but you would be using it on x18 mag for long shots, so the windage element of the reticle would be true. The exposed elevation turret does the rest.

I also use March compact scopes and T96 polar. I like the T96 but of the scopes I own, I would opt for the Leica or the March for a mountain rifle. I would say the March would be better to be honest but it is considerably more money. You would not feel undergunned with the Leica. It is a decent versatile scope that I feel suits a lot of UK shooting from close range woodland shooting to longer range applications. It is not a target scope but it covers all hunting bases, including mountain shooting.

How about Leica Amplus 2.5-15x50 instead of the 56.

The Z6i 3-18x50 has been discontinued for a fair while.

All of the above have an illuminated ret apart from the Zeiss. Just checking you knew this as some people just assume it’s illuminated.

Yes I knew about the Zeiss not being illuminated but thank you for the reminder. Not great but good zoom range / weight / price ratios.

That Z6i 3-18x50 would have been fabulous! Unfortunately Swaro prefer us shelling out £3k+ for their Z8 which I find just too much..!

Consider Maven RS1.2

Very similar specs compared to some of the models you mentioned but cheaper and the quality is still top notch.

I've got one on my .223, fantastic little scope.

I’d really stick to 44mm objective lenses for lighter rifles, both for cheek weld and weight and slimness. Also look out for the now discontinued Schmidt bender summit on a 1” tube!!!

Tough thing to walk past a Leica for pretty much the same money for one of these. Partly brand snobbery obviously but brand snobbery helps with the resale value.
Yeah.. I'm a bit of a brand snob too at times but newer brands (to the UK at least in this case) deserve a shot and with the quality of the scopes they will be considered with the best before long.

My RS.4 on my match Rifle blew the Vortex Razor Gen.2 away... and for less ££££
