Live filmed knife attack in Mannheim Germany against an anti islam group.

wasn't doubting his qualities or his motivations, just that a) it shouldn't have happened in a civilised country, the fact that it did is proof of the failure of our politicians to protect the people b) he actually caused the attack on himself inadvertently, by removing and cuffing the man that had restrained the assailant.
By the way...brave enough...it was his job. That is what he signed up for when he took the job and no matter how detestable his murder (for it surely was murder) it is an inescapable fact that that was what was required of him. You seem to forget that.

Yes it is his job, which therefore entails brave enough to sign up and do the job.

To be clear he did not sign up to be stabbed in the back of the head by a coward. He signed up to serve his community.
No where does it state a Police officer signs up to be stabbed in the back of the head, if you can find that in the German or any Police contract please share it.

As for “what the politicians have signed us up for”. People of all races and religions carry weapons and attack police. I have not researched the full background of the attacker, because I do not care about him, he should be sentenced accordingly. And yes I would agree that lack of controlled immigration likely played a part.

I can assure you I don’t forget what is required of him and the police of all nations.
I’m sure his family and friends do not either.

Then we are agreed to a degree. Shouldn't have happened. Actually, while he probably didn't tick a box saying he agreed to being murdered by cowards, protecting the public is precisely what he signed up for. I feel so much comforted by your assurance. It makes me feel warm inside.

Politician's never protect the people. They protect themselves....
Never a truer word said. Like hockey, footie etc...no point beating the goalie up... if the forwards and defence had been doing their jobs, he could have kept his thumb nice and warm. They make the mistake, far better people end up paying.
Our politicians have left the door open to these terrible people, and there is nothing they, or we, can do about it. They are embedded. We have to live with the consequences of the failure and moral cowardice of the people we paid to protect our borders. Sadly, their permissive idiocy will harden the views and responses to such things, we are now already well along the path to a far unhappier and more dangerous future than we should have been able to expect. Really disappointing.

whilst removing our most basic right of self defence in favour of a police force to protect us and whilst i have great respect for most of our police they simply cannot be everywhere all of the time!

the speed and ferocity of the attack is shocking and i am not sure short of a firearm what the victims could have used to protect themselves ? we cannot carry anything for self defence but even if we could carry pepper spray or a taser i wonder would it have helped ?

i'm a big guy and well able to look after myself providing it's a level playing field , but it never is in these cases !

Most cops in this country don’t want to be armed. Anecdotally because they would rather face danger on the street than the aftermath of having to shoot someone…

Feck me, Taser is regarded as a Weapon of Mass Destruction by senior management and the media…

Getting off the X

Tueller distance

Rush a pistol ,run from a blade

This all goes to pot when there are people being stabbed.

You’d pick up a chair if you had to.

Again it shows the police doing police tings and I am grateful for them.

Little training drill video I saw on tinterweb

It’s only when you have distance ,even when armed that your odds increase not to be stabbed.

Up close you may be able to retaliate but you’ll pay for it

As you say, the speed and ferocity was terrifying. How anyone protects against it is beyond me...unless of course Chuck Norris is with you. The real problem with this is that generally people will begin to look upon anyone with features of middle eastern/arabic origin as a potential threat. This will cause isolation, fear and suspicion, the perfect breeding ground for the really nasty stuff that must inevitably follow.

The problem in Mannheim was that the attacker was in amongst them before they knew it. There was no way of them creating the space they needed.

A point well made ^^^

And, respectfully, you don't think that is already the case??
I think you are right, but the problem is that we haven't yet seen it bite properly. We had a similar problem with the IRA, but they wanted to get home after their atrocities. These boys don't mind being martyred. They will change the way we live. They haven't even got started yet.

already changed the way we live , flown anywhere recently ?

Agreed, but I still think that this is generally nothing new and follows on from what we experienced in the 1970s, 80s and early 90s. These people haven't even started with us. When I say they will change the way we live, I do not mean the cosmetic changes such as bollards and airport security. I anticipate a whole new level of impositions and curbs on our rapidly vanishing freedoms, not just to cope with the security threat, but also the inevitable reaction to it from the indigenous population. We haven't seen anything yet. Please do not misunderstand me, I do not welcome it and regret that it is an opinion I hold, but I do think we have far worse to come on many fronts.

The video to me clearly showed something I had not really considered in the past. The confusion evident in a real time dynamic incident.

Moving away from the stabbing to the immediate aftermath, injured policeman standing, walking but attended to (rightly) by numerous colleagues. Shot attacker, attended to and given immediate first aid by one then two police.

The primary focus/ victim of the attack, lying down stabbed numerous times, no police giving immediate first aid, one or two civilian / associates of the man helping best they could. But it seemed a long time before he received ‘professional assistance yet there were many police within metres of this man.

I hurt thinking of this more than I expected, the video showing the build up to and the aftermath while we are being helpless bystanders. I think it will be one of the most documented what to do ifs for the security authorities Europe wide and also for anyone to think about what would you do.

Hmm, I think the man down was assessed and deemed not as bad as the officer bleeding bad. A female officer did check on him and he had associates with him.
My biggest concern for the man in blue was shock setting in.

My grandfather always said shoot first, ask questions after.
Often thought as a crass statement he certainly did not mean it that way at all.
Using some common sense one knows when a prick has evil intent.
Stop it and make sure it doesn't get back up. Then worry about being questioned, at least a family still has its father and provider!
